The action game Roco Kingdom is set to shake up the familiar rules of the creature-hunting genre with a fresh system for hunting rare Genies. At Gamescom, the developers shared details about how chromatic forms will surprise players while exploring the open world.

Hunting for rare monster variations has long been a classic—from Nintendo’s shiny Pokémon to the lucky Pals in Palworld.
However, the developers of Roco Kingdom decided to simplify the routine and add intrigue. In an interview with Insider Gaming, the project’s narrative director, Xiaoye, revealed a key detail of the mechanic: players won’t immediately realize how unique the Genie in front of them is.
Battles begin with a base or intermediate form (for example, with a “Nightmare” mask), and only after winning the battle will the game reveal the monster’s true form. If you get a rare chromatic variant, you’ve hit the jackpot. At the same time, regular non-chromatic alts are also valuable, as they come with a modified moveset and unique skills. The developers aim to make players enjoy re-captures, avoiding pointless grinding for numbers.
Co-op without the rat race: how co-op fishing works
Catching the same rare creature between two players isn’t possible, but chaotic races aren’t forced either. The developers built the MMO-lite with protective mechanics that prevent loot theft:

Post-catch trade: after catching a rare monster in co-op, you can simply transfer it to your partner.
