Nekki Studios has finally revealed the release window for its gun-fu action game SPINE – it will arrive on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in summer 2027. The announcement took place during the Future Games Show presentation at gamescom 2026, where the team also unveiled a new gameplay trailer. The Nintendo Switch 2 version, announced back in 2025, still has no release window.

In the new trailer, the developers first revealed the Judge, the supreme ruler of Tensor City, the metropolis where the game’s events unfold. Other key characters were also revealed: the Tensor Children, Edda Kopp, and Maladi. But most importantly, the trailer details the combat system. SPINE is a single-player cinematic adventure where close-range gunplay intertwines with Gun Fu-style melee combat.

The protagonist is Redline, a rebellious street artist who is trying to find her kidnapped brother and confront the despotic AI known as Tensor, who controls the city. She is aided by her sentient combat implant, Spine—a device with its own consciousness that Redline somehow stole. Together, they navigate neon-lit slums and glittering neighborhoods, encountering thugs, VR-obsessed fanatics, and elite implant users—Tensor’s Children.

Gun Fu Combat System and SPINE Gameplay

Battles in SPINE flow like one continuous action scene. Redline dodges bullets at point-blank range, leaps over enemies, disarms them, and instantly unleashes her captured weapon. It’s all part of the Freeflow Combat system, where each action flows into the next, and the tempo is uninterrupted. Parry an attack and you’ll receive a cinematic counterattack that reshapes the entire battle. Add finishing moves, environmental exploits, and improvisation as the chaos escalates.

A dedicated combat camera keeps Redline at the center of the action, creating the feeling of being in a Hollywood action film while maintaining full control. The animations, incidentally, were created in Cascadeur, Nekki’s proprietary 3D engine, which the studio has been using since its inception. The game itself runs on Unreal Engine 5.

Nekki Developers: SPINE Story and Campaign Length

The development is being handled by Nekki, the same studio that brought us the fighting game Shadow Fight and the parkour series Vector. Incidentally, SPINE is set in the same universe as Vector: players can expect Easter eggs and plot references, while the webtoon Bullet Dancer serves as a prequel.

Game Director Dmitry Pimenov personally answered over 500 fan questions during the “Full Contact Week” event. The team acknowledged that the game was announced earlier than expected, but called it the right decision to engage with the audience. They haven’t yet announced a specific release date—they want to be 100% confident in the product.

The story campaign is designed to last 8-12 hours of intense gameplay. The developers deliberately avoided an open world with endless grinding—only a linear adventure with a definitive ending. There are no branching storylines; the entire budget has been focused on dynamism and atmosphere. At launch, there will be a standard difficulty level and a hardcore mode. Arena and New Game+ are planned, and a photo mode will be available at launch. Customization has been confirmed.

SPINE Demo on Steam and Game Price

The studio plans to release a demo on Steam so players can try out the gameplay before purchasing. The exact price is still unknown—SPINE can only be wishlisted on Steam. The developers promise it will be lower than AAA games.

Soundtrack by Le Castle Vania and SPINE System Requirements

The game will feature full English voiceover and Russian subtitles. The developers explain this by the emphasis on facial animation and motion capture technology. The music is being composed by Le Castle Vania, a composer known for his work on John Wick.

Platform and technology support: Steam Deck, Linux, DLSS—already available. Nekki is working closely with NVIDIA. DualSense haptic feedback support is planned.

System Requirements (according to the Steam page)

Minimum

OS: Windows 10
Processor: Intel Core i5-6400 or equivalent
RAM: 8 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 or equivalent
DirectX: version 11
Disk Space: 30 GB

Recommended

OS: Windows 10
Processor: Intel Core i7-8700 or equivalent
RAM: 16 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 or equivalent
DirectX: version 12

The result is a compact project by modern standards—no bloated open world, no endless grind, but with a powerful cinematic presentation and a combat system that, judging by the trailers, truly exceeds expectations. If Nekki manages to maintain the pace and intensity shown in the trailers for the full 8-12 hours, SPINE has every chance of becoming a leading contender for the title of best action movie of 2027. John Wick, frankly, would be pleased.
