Commodore and Antstream announced the Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection for PC on Steam, celebrating the 35th anniversary of Team17’s iconic series. The developers have gathered six iconic titles from the Amiga era under one roof, combining classic isometric shooters and early 3D action games.

What’s included in the Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection?

Instead of a simple selection, retro fans get a comprehensive look at the history of British game development. The anthology includes six titles:

  • Alien Breed and Alien Breed Special Edition 92 — the legendary isometric shooter that started it all.
  • Alien Breed 2 The Horror Continues and Alien Breed Tower Assault — hardcore sequels with an emphasis on pace and survival.
  • Alien Breed 3D and Alien Breed 3D 2 The Killing Grounds — the studio’s first foray into boomer first-person shooter territory.

The projects’ source code was fully adapted for modern PCs, while preserving the aesthetic spirit of the original 1990s titles.

Gameplay and technical improvements in the remastered edition

Gameplay process

The collection aims to be the definitive edition for old-school gamers, so the developers have implemented a whole host of important features. Designed to bring classics to new systems, the collection is designed with modern comfort in mind:

  1. Controls adapted to modern standards. Isometric sections now feature a full twin-stick mode, while 3D action games now feature the familiar keyboard and mouse controls.
  2. Framerate and saves. The developers have increased the frame rate and added a flexible tactical save system for any point in the gameplay.
  3. Image settings. The display can be switched between the classic 4:3 and 16:9 formats, or filters with scanline simulation and the Mega CRT profile can be enabled.

Online Modes and the Team17 Digital Museum

The original local single-screen co-op remains, but the developers haven’t stopped there. The game now features a solo survival mode, Horde Mode, with endless waves of monsters, as well as an online Rush Mode with no margin for error and no intermediate saves.

The main bonus for history buffs will be the interactive museum with sections called “The Vault” and “The Timeline.” These sections feature rare design documents, original Amiga box art, video footage, and exclusive interviews with the Team17 developers.

System Requirements and Localization: Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection

Although this is a retro collection of 90s classics, the target platforms require modern components. To run the game, you’ll need Windows 10 with DirectX 12, 8 to 16 GB of RAM, and a graphics card equivalent to an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 or AMD Radeon RX 560.

The game will not be available in Russian — not even the interface will be translated. At launch, only English, French, Italian, and German are available. The exact release date and Steam price will be announced later.
