CD Projekt RED is preparing something unexpected for fans of Andrzej Sapkowski’s saga. While some are waiting for The Witcher 4 starring Ciri and a new TV series, the studio is quietly developing another project in the universe. And it’s completely different from what we’re used to from the Poles.

MP1st has unearthed details of an unannounced game—a free co-op action game where you can create your own witcher. The events take place in 1230. Geralt is still a young White Wolf, just beginning his journey. But you won’t be playing as him—players will be able to create their own character, choosing their gender, appearance, and other attributes. This kind of customization has long been commonplace in multiplayer games, but it feels fresh for The Witcher.

According to the leak, the gameplay revolves around monster contracts. Players, alone or with friends, will explore familiar locations from the series—gloomy forests, small villages, and abandoned ruins. The combat system is skill-based: you’ll find witcher schools for specialization, Signs, alchemy, and elixirs. The developers are emphasizing precise blocks, dodges, and parries—no mindless button mashing.

Currently, the project is only announced for PC and mobile devices. The leaked documents make no mention of consoles. Some attribute this to the mysterious partnership between CDPR and Scopely, the company behind many popular mobile games. It was announced back in March 2025, but the franchise wasn’t named at the time. Many assumed it was The Witcher or Cyberpunk. Now these speculations are gaining ground.

Multiplayer in The Witcher 4 and online elements Project Sirius

The Witcher 4 multiplayer

The story of the co-op spin-off inevitably raises the main question for fans: what about the fourth part? Is CD Projekt RED turning The Witcher 4 into another online service with microtransactions? Calm down. Let’s figure it out.

Official CD Projekt RED statements about online mode

At the moment, there’s almost nothing direct. And that’s typical. In September 2025, CDPR confirmed that it was working on online elements for “future games” and reiterated that Project Sirius was being built as a multiplayer experience. However, fans quickly drew the connection, sparking online debate. Later, the developers clarified: The Witcher 4’s priority is the single-player story campaign. Online features, if they appear, will be secondary and won’t impact the core gameplay.

The team’s size also indirectly suggests this: 499 specialists are working on The Witcher 4 as of February 2026. Nobody hires 500 people for an experimental multiplayer mode in a story-driven RPG.

Differences between the full-fledged The Witcher 4 and Project Sirius

This is the main point that many people confuse. Project Sirius is the very co-op spin-off MP1st is writing about. The Witcher 4 (codenamed Polaris) is a full-fledged single-player RPG that continues the franchise’s main storyline. These are two different games being developed in parallel.

The studio has repeatedly emphasized that The Witcher 4 is the beginning of a new trilogy. This means the focus will be on Ciri, a deep story, and multi-vocal choices. Not co-op contract runs.

Asynchronous online by type Elden Ring

The most realistic scenario for The Witcher 4. In Death Stranding, players see structures built by others, and in Elden Ring, they leave messages and traces of death. Something similar may appear in the new Witcher game. For example, the ability to see traces of others’ decisions or leave warnings in dangerous places. This adds a sense of a living world without breaking the single-player nature.

Cooperative mode in spin off Project Sirius

Project Sirius is the place to have a full-fledged co-op game. It will be free-to-play. This is where Witcher customization, monster hunting with friends, and long-term support are planned. Why would CDPR implement multiplayer in TW4 if a separate project is designed for it?

Multiplayer and Gwent Cards

Another possible option is an in-game card game. Online Gwent between players feels natural. The card minigame already existed in The Witcher 3 and even received a separate standalone edition. Bringing it back in the fourth installment with a PvP mode is a logical step that doesn’t disrupt either the lore or the single-player structure.

Bottom line: multiplayer in The Witcher 4, if it appears at all, will be in light, asynchronous forms. Full-fledged co-op is the place to be in Project Sirius. There are no official statements yet, but indirect data and development logic point in that direction. The wait isn’t long now—approximately until the end of 2026 or 2027.
