Assault rifles in Battlefield 6 are that perfect balance where you do not sacrifice damage in close-quarters or medium-range combat. Most rifles in this class are comfortable in firefights between 20 and 50 meters, but some can surprise you: they can dominate both at point-blank range and at long range. We will break down all the top options now, so you can understand which rifle will handle a given situation.

Current Tier List of Assault Rifles in Battlefield 6

Tier List of Assault Rifles in Battlefield 6

Here is the full list of the best (according to the editors):

  • M16A4
  • B36A4
  • M433
  • NVO-228E
  • Kord 6P67
  • TR-7 (excellent at close range)
  • VCR-2 (also for close range)
  • AK4D (long range)
  • SOR-556 (long range)
  • L85A3 (long range)

The developers balanced the weapons specifically for combat range, so we divided the rifles into three groups: close, medium, and long range. This makes it easier to compare and understand the overall picture. Now, on to the main weapons.

M16A4 Review Stats and Best Attachment

When the M16A4 was released in Season 3 of Battlefield 6, many breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, the same rifle from Battlefield 3—and it is really good. Not just because of its raw TTK, but because of its incredible versatility. The carbine is reliable at any range. Yes, after 40 meters, it is slightly inferior to some other rifles on our list. But at close and medium range, it is a real force.

Let us look at the numbers. The M16A4 kills a body shot with four bullets at up to 20 meters. When the enemy is 75 meters away, it will take six hits. Its rate of fire is 771 rounds per minute, plus relatively low recoil. This makes it a weapon that can compete on par with any other primary rifle in the game. Incidentally, the M16A4 fires in bursts by default. But after you unlock the A3 Receiver attachment, you can transform it into a full-fledged assault rifle. Apparently, the developers knew what they were doing.

B36A4 Guide How to Control Recoil

The B36A4 is like a more user-friendly version of the M16A4. They have a similar damage profile, but the B36A4 has a slightly lower rate of fire, but its recoil is significantly more manageable. The carbine bounces less when firing fully automatic than the M16A4. Although the B36A4’s recoil was slightly reduced in Season 3, it remains the best choice for those who do not want to have to adjust their aim after every volley.

Honestly, it is hard to find any serious downsides to the B36A4. It is perfectly average across the board. Yes, a player with a more situationally optimized weapon can outshoot you. But if you play smart and leverage the B36A4’s strengths (stability and predictability), you will win. It all depends on you.

M433 Secrets of Effective Shooting for Beginners

The M433 is given to beginners by default. And many are wrong to write it off. At ranges up to 50 meters, this rifle easily competes with top-tier models. Its main advantage is its 830 RPM rate of fire and bullets with 25 damage. Moreover, damage does not drop off until 21 meters. Excellent performance for close-quarters combat.

At medium ranges (beyond 20 meters), things get more complicated. The M433’s recoil is quite chaotic, and its rate of fire only makes matters worse. You will have to switch to burst fire. Then you can still reliably take out targets. But honestly, there are better options for medium ranges.

NVO 228E How to Maximize Damage

The NVO was lucky in Season 3: it was not nerfed. The weapon retained all the pros and cons from previous seasons. And it is in very good condition now. Similar to the M433? Yes, the NVO also likes close quarters combat. Why? Because it kills in three chest hits. It is decent at medium range, too, but its lower rate of fire and moderate spread reduce its effectiveness beyond 40 meters.

Here is an important nuance. The NVO’s three-shot kill range is just 8 meters. No more. Want to maximize your kills? Be aggressive. Lying in the bushes will not cut it.

Kord 6P67 Medium Range Combat Tactics

The Kord is the complete opposite of the NVO. It has the lowest damage per bullet of any assault rifle in Battlefield 6—only 20. But it does have some compensation: very low recoil and a blistering rate of fire—900 rounds per minute. What do we get? A weapon perfectly tuned for medium range combat. While other rifles start to miss or burst into bursts, the Kord delivers a steady stream of bullets. If the shooter is experienced, hitting the target is almost guaranteed.

The Kord also does not fail in close combat. But if you run into one of the previous monsters (M433, NVO, or TR-7), you will likely lose. Bottom line: keep your distance.

TR 7 Best Assault Rifle for Close Combat

The TR-7 is easily the best assault rifle for close combat. Look at the numbers: 33 damage at up to 20 meters. That is three chest hits, and the enemy is dead. The downside? Recoil. Forget about casual shooting. The TR-7 kicks like a restless horse, even with attachments. And in Season 3, the recoil was increased, effectively killing its effectiveness at medium range.

Do not get me wrong. In the right hands, the TR-7 works wonders. It is the best assault rifle in BF6 for close combat, period. But you should focus exclusively on CQB. On large maps like Golmud Railroad, this style will be a problem.

Is the VCR 2 worth picking up after the Season 3 nerf

The VCR-2 used to dominate the assault rifle class. After the Season 3 nerf, it is a real pain to use. It currently has the worst shooting experience in the entire game. Sure, it still chews up enemies at roughly the same rate as the TR-7. But the wild, unpredictable spread makes hitting targets further than 20 meters or enemies behind cover extremely difficult. Is it worth picking up? Only if you enjoy challenging conditions and are willing to suffer for the sake of your former glory.

AK4D Long Range Shooting Features

The AK4D can be thought of as a simplified version of the TR-7. Similar to how the B36A4 compares to the M16A4. In terms of close-quarters kill rate, this rifle ranks fourth among assault rifles. Why? A three-shot range of up to 20 meters works reliably. But if the enemy is further away, you will have to spray four bullets into their chest—and so on up to 75 meters.

The AK4D’s rate of fire is stable, which partly compensates for its strong recoil. Keeping your aim on target is quite realistic. But there is one major problem: spread. It is incredibly large. Want to take out enemies at long range? Forget long bursts. Only fire two shots at a time, otherwise your bullets will go wide.

SOR 556 A Precise Weapon for a Stealthy Playstyle

The SOR-556 is a sniper’s soul in the body of an assault rifle. Recoil is minimal, even lower than the Kord. Among all long-range rifles in this category, the SOR-556 has the best accuracy during sustained fire. It is the ideal choice for those who like to keep their distance and calmly plow through the enemy.

Let us talk about the unpleasant details. The SOR-556’s rate of fire is so slow that it is one of the slowest weapons in Battlefield 6 in terms of kill rate. In close-quarters combat against a player with decent reflexes, you will almost always lose. At long range, this rifle can even outperform the Kord. Who would I recommend it to? Only those who want a relaxed, effortless playstyle. But even then, you will have to adapt: stealth, surprise, and engaging only those who can not see you. In short, it is a specific weapon.

Comparison of the L85A3 with similar weapons Performance tests

The L85A3 is exactly what you think it is. Something between the SOR-556 and the AK4D. The rifle itself is quite good. But it lacks a single redeeming quality of the two aforementioned models. The L85A3 is worthy in every respect. The only question is whether this is enough to be truly competitive.

Your success with the L85A3 depends on two things: your personal accuracy and the battlefield environment. Like the SOR-556, you will not win in a straight-up shootout. However, the rifle can deliver serious results and often feels better than the SOR-556, thanks to its faster TTK. However, finding a real use for this weapon is difficult. The B36A4 is right there, which does almost everything, but is simpler and more reliable.

Battlefield 6 Assault Rifle Time to Kill TTK Chart

Above, we have broken down the stats for each gun individually. But in the real world of Battlefield 6, when you are going head-to-head with an enemy, one metric matters. Time-to-kill (TTK) is your theoretical maximum. How many milliseconds would it take to kill if you pumped every last bullet into the enemy’s body. In practice, recoil and poor shooting skills certainly play a role, but the raw TTK determines how forgiving a weapon is. The formula here is simple: take the number of shots to the corpse, subtract one (the first bullet flies instantly), divide by the RPM, and multiply by 60,000.

Weapon Damage/Bullet
up to 20 m
Bullets to Kill

RPM Close TTK

Mid TTK

NVO-228E 33 3 654 183 ~275 up to 8 m
TR-7 33 3 ~750 160 480+ up to 20 m
M433 25 4 830 217 290
M16A4 25 4 771 233 311
B36A4 25 4 ~700 257 300

SOR-556 ~22 5 ~500 480 360
L85A3 ~24 4–5 ~600 300 300
VCR-2 33 3 ~780 154 N/A* up to 20 m

* After the nerf in Season 3, the VCR-2 turned into a random firecracker at ranges over twenty meters. Its spread became absolutely insane, so measuring its average TTK is simply pointless.

Hidden Weapon Meta and BF6 Non Obvious Stats

Annihilation Parameters and Time to Kill Context

Time-to-Kill Stats Are Wrong Without Real Context. Here are three non-obvious facts that ruin the usual understanding of the table:

  • Illusion of Speed: In theory, the VCR-2 and TR-7 are absolutely smashing. They take down close combat in a measly 154-160 ms. However, the VCR-2’s stats are currently pure math. It is physically impossible to realize this damage beyond fifteen meters (the spray flies anywhere but the enemy). Get the TR-7. It is more reliable and reliably one-shots with three bullets at twice the range.
  • Machine Gun Oddities: The Kord 6P67 is a complete paradox. It is the only weapon in the roster that kills faster at medium range than at point-blank range. The answer lies in its rate of fire. At 40-50 meters, when the NVO-228E and TR-7 are already starting to lose serious damage, the Kord, with its 900 RPM, simply showers the opponent with lead. A great counterpick for open maps.
  • Clone Wars: The M433 vs. M16A4 duel is a classic. On paper, the difference is a paltry 16 ms in close combat. Guess how much that is? Exactly one frame at 60 fps. You will not even feel the difference. But the M433’s insane rate of fire is very forgiving of poor aim, as the fifth round leaves the barrel much sooner.
