With the release of the expansion Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred, Blizzard has made an unexpected decision: the launch season — Season of Reckoning — will be deliberately minimalistic. No time mechanics, no unique plot that disappeared after three months. The studio openly admitted that this was a departure from the usual formula, and gave the opportunity to return to the standard form next season.

The logic here is simple. The Lord of Hate brings so many changes, which by itself already closes everything that a season is usually needed for. Piling another layer of temporary content on top means spraying the attention of the players at the most inopportune moment.

What’s new in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred — Classes, Crafting, and Endgame

The expansion really shakes up Diablo 4 inside and out. This is not a cosmetic update or a couple of new bosses — it’s about system changes on the whole front.

Here’s what Players Get from Lord of Hatred:

  • Two new classes are Paladin and Warlock, each with a different style of play.
  • Completely redesigned skill branches for all other classes.
  • The Horadric Cube is finally a full—fledged crafting of items, just like in the good old days
  • New endgame mode with small skill trees for activities
  • The mysterious potential of fishing — hints at the secret level of the cow do not give fresh theorists

Forty—five hours in the game – and not all corners of the expansion of scientific research. There seems to be more content than meets the eye.

Season of Reckoning Seasonal Awards: Seven Mythical Hunters instead of one

Blizzard didn’t leave the payback season completely empty. To compensate for the lack of exclusive mechanics, the studio increases the number of awards for seasonal work.

The main surprise is the materials for crafting seven mythical unique items at once. Usually, you could count on a maximum of one per season. Mythical unics are the rarest and most powerful items in the game, so getting seven at once is more than generous.

In addition, the rewards include free cosmetic items, such as a pet from the hellish roots. Most of the available purchases are without extensions. Those who want exclusive skins can fork out for seasonal reliquaries separately.

Release date and time of Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred — the beginning of the season

Lord of Hate launched on April 27, 2026 at 23:00 Moscow time. The season itself begins thirty minutes later — the break is specially designed to give players the opportunity to log into the game before the servers start bursting at the seams under the onslaught of fans.

At the same time, the seasonal characters have not gone away — you can create new characters and swing from scratch, as usual. It’s just that this time, nothing of what’s happening has disappeared in three months. All the progress, all the mechanics are a constant part of the game.

Should I play Diablo 4 now — or wait for the next season?

For those who are not impressed by the Lord of Hate, the “empty” season is a cause for disappointment. But if the extension is hooked, there will be no shortage of classes. New classes require mastery, redesigned systems require comprehension, and endgame time. Blizzard, apparently, has made a bet on this: it has given the player the space to really try out everything new, without interfering with the race for temporary bonuses.

Payback Season may be the most honest season in the history of Diablo 4—not because it’s rich, but because it doesn’t try to appear like something it isn’t.
