Treyarch Studio has decided to finally separate the casuals and the real pros in the rating mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
The developers have released an announcement — in the upcoming update, aiming assistance for sniper rifles will be completely disabled. This solution, in fact, copies the strict standards of the Call of Duty League (CDL) and Challengers, where people have been beating their hands for “auto-guidance” for a long time.
By the way, earlier teams generally tried to ban snipers in the competitive segment, but changed their minds — as soon as it became clear that the assist could simply be turned off, thereby creating a real gap in skill between the players. Now, in the “Search and Destroy” mode, you will have to rely only on your reflexes.

Why does Treyarch disable aiming assistance?
Aiming assistance, in general, has always been the foundation of “kolda”, helping gamepads keep track of the target through automatic debugging. In Black Ops 7, the rotary assist was already slightly clipped, but for snipers it was still an imboy.
“We will disable auto-aiming for snipers in rating matches so that everything is according to CDL feng Shui,” said Lawrence Metten, deputy director of design at Treyarch.
It’s funny that after the patch of season 2, the meta won’t budge along the way – esports players will continue to run with VS Recon, Dravec 45 and assault M15 MOD 0.
The best sniper builds after disabling assist
After disabling auto-aiming, choosing a sniper in Black Ops 7 will no longer be a matter of “convenience” and will become a matter of pure mechanics. Now it’s not the rotary assist hitboxes that decide, but recoil control, ADS speed, and sight stability.
If earlier the best sniper 2026 was determined by how aggressively it “sticks” to the enemy’s model, now the priority is:

VS Recon remains a stable choice due to the fast aiming animation, but without an assist, you will have to compensate for micro-errors by manually fine-tuning. The Dravec 45 is suitable for those who play from position and control angles rather than pushing.
Players on the gamepad should abandon aggressive speed builds and reassemble rifles through recoil control and stability — this partially eliminates the loss of aiming assistance.
CDL Major 2 2026 format schedule prize pool
While the guns are being reconfigured, fans are already checking the schedule of online qualifiers for the second major. By the way, these battles will take place from February 13 to March 22, where the fate of the LAN finals slots will be decided.
The Major 2 event itself will be hosted by DreamHack Birmingham at the end of March, from the 27th to the 29th.
The scheme is strict — 10 teams, and those who fell to 7-10 places will fly to the Play-Ins. The winners will advance to the Double Elimination playoffs, where a jackpot of $365,000 is at stake.
