DN FREECS — everything. The South Korean esports machine officially changed its sign to DN SOOPers just before the start of the 2026 season, and this, let’s tell you this, is quite a big move for the entire Asian scene.

About the reasons: why Freecs turned into SOOPers

The announcement was presented on December 22, 2025. Everything is simple here — the organization, in fact, has finally synchronized its League of Legends lineups with the branding of the streaming giant SOOP (which we all remember as AfreecaTV). The logo, in fact, was not particularly tormented — it’s just a slightly tweaked version of the old Freecs icon, but it looks, frankly, quite cheerful.

By the way, at the beginning of next year, expect a fresh line of jersey and other merchandise — the designers there are clearly not sitting idly by.

Admittedly: a history of victories and failures in the LCK League

Guys have a long history in the League. Do you remember 2019? Then it was like they smeared SANDBOX Gaming in the finals and took the KeSPA Cup trophy. But the fresh year 2025 turned out to be, to put it mildly, so—so – sixth place in the same tournament and zero wins in the group stage, which, apparently, upset the fans a lot. Now everyone will be performing under the SOOPers tag: the main roster, the youngsters from the Challengers, and even the boys from the Academy.

And that is where the fun comes in: the dominance of Tekken and PUBG

The organization is doing much better in other disciplines, though. In Tekken 8, their fighter Lim ‘Ulsan‘ Soo-hoon recently triumphantly took the Esports World Cup — three representatives of SOOPers flew into the top 8 of that event, by the way. It’s powerful, you can’t argue.

In addition, the team hosted the PUBG Players Masters Invitational, which was the last major tournament with a third—person view (TPP) in the past year. Interestingly, starting in 2026, PUBG is moving completely to TPP for entertainment purposes, and SOOPers is clearly in favor here.

In general, even though fans on social media are arguing themselves hoarse about the new name, sponsorship interests are a tough thing. Let’s get used to it, in short.

Bottom line: Can DN Soopers become the new super brand of the Korean scene?

Will they take off or not? DN SOOPers is the fourth attempt by the organization to find itself, and this rebranding happened, by the way, under pressure from AfreecaTV, which is now turning into SOOP itself. The logo with the shield, apparently, symbolizes unity. It’s funny, really. Fans in Korean public sites are already posting memes about “DN POOPers”, although experts still hope for a real gaming breakthrough.

Marketing or sports: how name change affects the roster

Names are a consumable. Korean clubs are constantly changing their names — from Afreeca Freecs through Kwangdong to DN — simply because the sponsor wanted it that way. The theory of the “unity of streamers and pro-players”, in general, sounds pretentious. The usual marketing. LCK’s practice proves that without a hard roster, any sign change will remain just a cosmetic repair to attract attention.

KIA Dplus

Take the same KIA Dplus — they, in principle, retained their recognition after the deal with the auto giant and even reached the Worlds 2025 playoffs. They beat T1 in the regular season, but in key battles they still fell away with a score of 3:1.

Comparison with T1: legend vs novice

T1 is another world. Their move away from SKT in 2019 was not a whim, but a well—thought-out strategy to capture the planet around Faker – and it yielded results. In personal meetings against the same Dplus, they have, in fact, 23 victories in 2025. Strong statistics. DN SOOPers are now at risk of simply losing their remaining loyalty due to endless renaming, as it once happened with Gen.G or the KT team.

Aspect DN Soopers (2025) T1 (post-rebranding) Dplus KIA (2024–2025)
Reason for change SOOP sponsor (AfreecaTV) Emphasis on independent identity (Faker) Auto brand KIA, long-term stability
Logo concept Shield “S+D”, streamer unity Classic tiger, evolutionary update Modern, aggressive design
Results 4th rebrand, still no major titles 3× Worlds champions, LCK dominance Playoffs appearances, but eliminated by T1 1:3
Fan reaction Jokes and skepticism (Reddit) Cult-level loyalty Stable support, H2H 15:23

Honest prediction: will DN SOOPers become a leader in 2026

The numbers are not deceiving in any way. Analysts from Reddit and Cybersport give only 40% chance of the team getting into the top 2 by the Worlds 2026 season. Organizations need nosebleed tops like Bdd or Doran, otherwise nothing will work. It makes sense, to be honest. The problem is that SOOP thinks more about streaming and not about infrastructure, unlike T1 with their training bases.

Bettors, by the way, should take a closer look at the first split — the victory over GEN.G will be a clear signal. If they fail, wait for the next rebranding.

Gaps and what lies ahead

Content decides everything. Most newsmen on Google simply copy the facts about the name change, but DN SOOPers probably deserve a deeper analysis of sponsorship risks. The upcoming KeSPA Cup on December 13, 2025 will feature the hu of hu. We are waiting for a sensation. Either the guys will loudly declare themselves in the match against T1 or Dplus, or they will remain on the lists of the eternal middleweights of the league.
