The Story of Zac
Not every champion started out as a person. Zac started as an accident, and his origin can be traced in stages, from spill to something closer to sentience.
- A toxic runoff drains through a chemtech seam beneath Zaun.
- It settles, isolated, inside a cavern deep in the city’s Sump.
- Over time, the primordial ooze becomes something that can think.
- That thinking being makes a home in Zaun’s pipes, rarely seen unless it chooses to be.
Zac doesn’t advertise himself. He emerges mainly when there’s a reason: someone who needs help they can’t manage alone, or infrastructure that’s fallen apart and needs rebuilding. It’s a quiet kind of purpose for something that technically shouldn’t exist, closer in spirit to Ekko‘s scrappy resourcefulness than to any grand heroics, and it fits a city that treats reinvention as routine.
That same improvised quality carries into how he fights. Stretching Strikes grabs an enemy at range, and attacking a second target hurls both of them into each other. Unstable Matter explodes outward, dealing damage based on the maximum health of everyone caught nearby. Elastic Slingshot anchors his arms to the ground and launches him forward like a slingshot. Let’s Bounce!, his ultimate, has him bounce four times, knocking up and slowing anyone he lands on. Cell Division, his passive, is what makes all of it survivable: every ability that connects sheds a piece of him that can be reabsorbed for health, and taking fatal damage splits him into four smaller blobs that try to reform rather than simply dying. It’s a body built out of leftover chemical waste, and it refuses to follow the same rules as everyone else’s. Picking up the goo chunks he sheds matters as much as any single ability, since it’s what keeps him alive through a long fight, and charging Elastic Slingshot from inside the fog of war gives enemies far less time to react to the leap that follows. Enemies, in turn, are taught to crush that same goo underfoot and hunt down every one of his bloblets quickly, since letting even one survive undoes the entire point of bringing him down.
