The Story of Ekko
A Z-Drive Built From Zaun’s Streets
Ekko grew up in the rough streets of Zaun, and it was there that he built the Z-Drive, a device of his own invention that lets him explore branching versions of the same moment. Rather than committing to one outcome, he can test possibilities until he finds the one where things go his way, and then simply live that version, first try, every time.
Freedom With Limits
Ekko treats that freedom as something to enjoy, but it stops being a game the instant people he cares about are threatened. Alongside the Firelights, he will use every advantage the Z-Drive gives him to protect them, which is the one place his relaxed attitude toward danger disappears entirely. His old friendship with Jinx is one of the few personal connections tied directly to that same Zaun upbringing.
His kit plays out the same logic of testing and correcting. Z-Drive Resonance, his passive, rewards repeated hits on the same target with bonus damage and a speed burst against champions. Timewinder throws a grenade that slows on impact and rewinds partway back toward Ekko, hitting a second time along the way. Parallel Convergence splits the timeline to slow enemies caught in a delayed anomaly, and Phase Dive lets him roll evasively into his next empowered attack. His ultimate, Chronobreak, is the clearest expression of his power: he shatters his own timeline, turns untargetable, and rewinds to a safer point moments earlier, healing as he returns — a tool players lean on offensively as much as defensively, since its damage can be substantial. Ekko becomes noticeably weaker in the stretch of time after Chronobreak is spent, and the stun zone left by Parallel Convergence takes a few seconds to arm, giving an alert opponent a chance to read the warning and reposition before it closes. Ekko is, in every sense, a fighter who refuses to accept a single bad outcome as final.
