The Story of Vex
Vex would rather be left alone in the fog, and the Shadow Isles — a blighted archipelago wrapped in the Black Mist, where death rarely stays final — are more than happy to oblige her. She’s a yordle who somehow ended up content in the Isles’ spectral gloom, trudging through the mist with a shadow of her own in tow and no particular interest in leaving, which already sets her apart from most of what else lives there.
There’s no grand mission behind any of it. Vex isn’t chasing power or revenge; she simply prefers her self-made slice of misery to what she considers the tiresome cheer of the outside — or “normie” — world, and she has little patience for anyone who wanders into her gloom expecting otherwise. Ambition isn’t really her thing, but irritation clearly is, and she’s quick to snuff out color or happiness the moment it gets close, treating a stranger’s good mood as a problem to be solved rather than shared.
Her kit is built to punish exactly that kind of intrusion. Doom ‘n Gloom periodically empowers her next basic ability to fear enemies and interrupt their dashes, and marks anyone who dashes near her so she can consume that mark for a follow-up strike. Mistral Bolt fires a missile that accelerates the longer it flies, Personal Space shields her while damaging anything that gets too close, Looming Darkness drops a slowing zone that spreads Gloom across whoever stands in it, and her ultimate, Shadow Surge, marks a target at range before letting her recast it to dash straight into them. She plays out of the mid lane as a mage running on ordinary mana, with no real interest in flash or spectacle, just quiet, efficient misery. Fellow Shadow Isles residents like Hecarim haunt the same mist, though usually with considerably more purpose than Vex bothers to have. The Isles hold other permanent fixtures too, among them Elise, Gwen, and Karthus, though none of them shares Vex’s particular grudge against anyone else’s good mood.
