The Story of Riven
Riven no longer has a homeland, and that absence defines her more than any title could.
She was once a swordmaster in Noxus’s warhosts, a soldier who earned her rank through conviction and brutal efficiency rather than birth or favor. That record won her a legendary runic blade, along with a warband of her own to lead into battle. It was the invasion of Ionia that undid all of it. Whatever she witnessed or was ordered to do on that front broke something in her faith in the empire she had served without question, and she cut every tie to Noxus that remained. Now she lives as an exile in the very land she once tried to conquer, without a cause to replace the one she lost — even as rumors spread that Noxus itself has been rebuilt into something new.
Her kit fights like someone with nothing left to lose. Runic Blade charges with every ability cast, and her basic attacks spend those charges for extra damage. Broken Wings lets her chain up to three dashing strikes in quick succession, the last one knocking nearby enemies back. Ki Burst follows with a burst that damages and stuns everything close by. Valor gives her a short forward step that blocks incoming damage, useful for closing distance or escaping it. And Blade of the Exile, her ultimate, empowers her weapon with bonus Attack Damage and Range, granting a single use of Wind Slash, a ranged strike that lets her finish a fight even from beyond melee range.
She has no resource bar to manage, which fits a character who has already stripped away everything else that once defined her — rank, nation, cause. What remains is the blade, and the fight in front of her. Elsewhere on the roster, figures such as Ambessa and Cassiopeia still answer to Noxus, the empire Riven left behind.
