The Story of Katarina
A Daughter of Du Couteau
Katarina is the eldest child of General Du Couteau, a lineage that set expectations for her from birth. Noxus rewards demonstrated strength over noble blood, and Katarina made her name the empire’s way: killing unsuspecting, heavily-guarded targets before anyone in the room realized what was happening. Her ambition regularly outruns her caution, and she has been known to press toward a target even when doing so puts her own allies at risk, a trait that has earned her equal parts admiration and quiet unease within Noxian ranks.
Family complicates the picture further. Her sister Cassiopeia shares her blood but not necessarily her loyalties, and Katarina’s rivalry with the Demacian soldier Garen has become one of the more enduring grudges in the long war between the two nations. None of this softens her methods. If anything it sharpens them, since a Du Couteau failure is rarely allowed to stay private for long, and Katarina has built her entire reputation on being the daughter who does not fail.
Blades in Motion
Every tool Katarina carries is built around momentum. Bouncing Blade throws a dagger that ricochets between nearby targets before hitting the ground, and Preparation launches another dagger into the air while giving her a burst of speed, daggers she can later recover to cut down Shunpo’s cooldown. Shunpo itself is a short blink that strikes whatever she lands near, letting her chain from one target straight into the next. Her ultimate, Death Lotus, channels a flurry of blades into the three nearest enemy champions at once, and thanks to her passive, Voracity, killing anyone she has recently damaged resets much of what she has already spent. In practice, a single kill can cascade into several more before the fight even has time to settle, which is exactly the kind of snowball a Noxian assassin is expected to create.
