Hallowed Mist is the ability that breaks Sylas. Gwen’s mist protects her from anything outside it and leaves her targetable only by enemies who step in, and Kingslayer, the lunge that both damages Sylas’s target and heals him against champions, needs something it can select. Walking into the mist to get that target means standing in the cone where Snip Snip! deals true damage at its center, a poor trade for a champion carrying 29 base armor against her 39.

A Thousand Cuts adds bonus magic damage scaled to the target’s health and heals Gwen for part of what it deals to champions, so long exchanges in the jungle drift her way. Sylas answers with Petricite Burst charges spent on basic attacks and Chain Lash for the delayed explosion, and his ultimate is worth only what Hijack can steal. Needlework is a slowing, damaging line, useful but not a fight-ender in a clash between two melee champions moving at 340 with 175 and 150 attack range. Skip ‘n Slash also grants Gwen attack speed and extra attack range for a few seconds, which erases even that small reach edge.

Level 18 gives Sylas the bigger pool at 2,674 health against 2,575, while Gwen keeps the armor edge at 122.3 to 117.4. Over 348 games on patch 16.13.1, Sylas loses to Gwen at 44.3 percent, with both rated five for difficulty.
