A single ability accounts for most of it. Unbreakable raises Braum’s shield in a chosen direction and intercepts projectiles so they strike him and are destroyed, and Dredge Line is a projectile. Without his anchor, Nautilus is a 175-range melee support moving at 325 with no way to start a fight.

Braum’s own engage never has to travel. Winter’s Bite slows and applies a stack of Concussive Blows, and once the first stack lands allied attacks continue stacking it until the fourth stuns. That shifts the workload onto the bot carry rather than the support, which is why uncoordinated pairings suffer most in this matchup.

Nautilus keeps genuine advantages whenever he connects.
