Riven’s kit runs on cooldowns alone with no mana or energy bar, meaning Broken Wings and Ki Burst are always available the moment they come off cooldown, while Akali has to track Energy before committing to a Five Point Strike poke. Across 408 recorded games on patch 16.13.1, Akali wins only 44.6% of the time, and the champion-level difficulty ratings hint at why: Riven is rated 8/10, one point above Akali’s own 7/10, in a lane where both sides need near-perfect execution to come out ahead.

Riven’s passive, Runic Blade, charges her blade off every ability cast and dumps that damage into her next auto-attacks, which punishes Akali for standing in range to poke. Base stats favor Riven slightly as well, 630 health against Akali’s 600, and armor climbing to 107.8 by level 18 versus 102.9. Blade of the Exile adds bonus attack damage and range on top of that, so Riven’s all-in window at level 6 tends to arrive with more damage attached than Akali’s own burst combo through Riven’s kit can answer.
