60.5% from 392 games on patch 16.13.1 is a wide margin, and it comes from a timing mismatch rather than a raw stat edge. Gwen’s defensive numbers are better almost everywhere: 2,575 health at level 18 against 2,330, 39 base armor rising to 122.3 against 33 and 107.8, and 150 attack range against 125.

What she lacks is an answer to front-loaded burst. A Thousand Cuts scales with target health and heals her for part of the damage, so her strength is the long fight. Hallowed Mist only protects her from enemies standing outside it, and a Riven who steps into the mist keeps full access to her. Runic Blade charges on every ability cast and is spent through basic attacks, which means the three-part Broken Wings chain, the stun from Ki Burst, and the bonus attack damage and range from Blade of the Exile all land inside a window where Gwen’s healing has nothing to work with.

Two practical points follow. Riven pays no resource cost and can rotate abilities freely while Gwen manages mana, and Snip Snip! deals its true damage only to units in the center of the cone, so stepping sideways with Valor removes a large share of the incoming damage.
