Blizzard took the recently announced housing system for WoW and added a surprising mechanic. On April 21st, with update 12.0.5, Decor Duels, a variation of prop hunting, will be added to the game. For those unfamiliar, it’s a mode where one team hides by transforming into interior objects, while the other team hunts down unlucky “couches” and “lamps.”
The action takes place in the elven capital of Silvermoon. It was there that the developers decided to test out the idea: players on one team gain the ability to disguise themselves as random objects in the environment, while the opponents must identify and “kill” those who stick out. The housing system has given Blizzard a huge library of models, from beds to chandeliers, so there’s no chance of getting bored.
What are the rewards for participating and how to get into a match?
Winning and even simply participating in “Decorative Duels” rewards include a mount (most likely cosmetic), a pack of toys, and, of course, home decor. You can join a match through the standard group search tool—it’s located in the PvP section. There won’t likely be any special equipment requirements.
This fact alone is telling: Blizzard isn’t just sweetening the wait for major patches; they’re seriously considering using housing mechanics as a building block for new content. Quests, special modes, and now even social games like hide-and-seek. It’s a welcome change of pace—a breath of fresh air for a game that’s been all about raids and keys for the past few years.
