Blizzard Entertainment decided to make a real shake-up and at a recent presentation presented plans that literally reset the past of Overwatch. The funny thing is that the number “2” is officially cut out of the title — this, apparently, puts a bold end to the protracted saga of the “sequel” and opens a completely new chapter.

In fact, the heat will start as early as February 10, when five fresh faces will break into the game along with the first season, and esports loot boxes and mysterious “subgroups” will probably spread the meta both in public and among the pros.

List of 10 New Overwatch Heroes in 2026

The main hype surrounding the Overwatch Spotlight announcement is, of course, a pack of five characters that will become available at the start of Season 1.

10 New Overwatch Heroes in 2026

In fact, the roster will be replenished with:

  • Domina — a powerful tank with a shield, which, interestingly, absorbs damage only partially;
  • Emre is a classic combatant who, by the way, resembles the fighters from Halo with his rifle and ricocheting grenades;
  • Mizuki — support with a healing aura in the spirit of Lucio, which, however, accelerates damage;
  • Anran is a cunning assassin with two ults, the choice of which depends on her state of health;
  • Jetpack Cat is a flying support, capable, apparently, of knocking enemies off the map.

Actually, Blizzard is planning to make five more heroes later, so in 2026 we’ll get as many as 10 new fighters. In addition, the developers hinted that the old guard is also waiting for a serious rework — cool, right?

A new system of roles and passive skills of heroes

Do you remember the perks from the Overwatch 2 reviews? So, they are being replaced by “Subgroups” — and this, frankly, sounds like a complete paradigm shift in gameplay.

Now in Season 1, each class will be divided into 10 small factions based on the style of play. Characters in the same group will receive a common passive — let’s say, the “Scouts” (DD) will see the wounded through the walls, and the “Medics” (support) will begin to heal themselves while patching up allies. The tournament scene, by the way, should be stunned by such news. All players are curious to see how this will work in practice.

Collaboration with Hello Kitty and roadmap for 2026

Doomfist skin

Blizzard Entertainment wanted to organize a real apocalypse in a competitive mode in a good way. Already with the beginning of season 1, the game, which is now officially just Overwatch, will feature a toothy cannon skin called “Red Wolf”, and those who crawl up to “Diamond” and above, in general, will be fitted in the form of a Doomfist look.

The most interesting thing is that the developers decided to shake up the rank system — now they will be divided by rarity. Dynamic titles will be brought to the top 500 players in season 2, which, apparently, will make even a cyber athlete sweat. The best of the best in the Challenger ranking will receive invitations to FaceIt events. In fact, Blizzard has seriously taken up the esports vertical.

The return of Loot Boxes and the OWCS 2026 tournament schedule

The news about the return of in-game loot boxes sounds like a bolt from the blue, but now they are purely esports. The publisher promised that through them it will be possible to knock out historical skins — it’s powerful, really.

In general, the tournament layout is as follows:

  • OWCS 2026 — the Champion Series season promises to be hot;
  • Overwatch World Cup — the long-awaited revival of the World Cup;
  • FaceIt is a direct link between the rating and professional events.

Curiously, Blizzard has finally heard from the fans and is bringing back the former glory of the competitive scene. Apparently, 2026 will be a crucial year for the discipline.

Graphics update and version for Nintendo Switch 2

Quality of Life Gameplay Changes

To tell the truth, Overwatch will be unrecognizable next year — we are waiting for a total redesign of the interface and graphical facelifts. Console owners can rejoice: a version for the Nintendo Switch 2 has been announced.

Instead of the old cards at the end of the match, now, imagine, there will be full-fledged 3D models of the heroes. The praise system is also going under the knife — now you can give respect to the whole team at once, and the “heroic praise” will highlight the most epic moment of the rink. The stadium, by the way, will also be upgraded: the arsenal will become more convenient, and for beginners, the hero designer will add top-end builds in real time.

The Conquest event and the new mythical looks of the season

As for cosmetics, some kind of surrealism has begun here — Overwatch is officially collaborating with Hello Kitty. In season 1, the “Conquest” event also starts, where rewards depend on the chosen faction.

In short, according to the skins, the situation is as follows:

  • Mercy — receives the mythic “Heavenly Guardian” at the start of the season;
  • Juno — gets the mythical “Star Shooter”;
  • May — will finally take on her first mythical appearance in the middle of the season;

Hello Kitty is the most unexpected collaboration of the year;

  • Holidays — Valentine’s Day packages are on the way.

In addition, Blizzard has revealed plans for mythics for Mauga, Illari, and Soldier: 76, while Genji, Hanzo, and Sojorn will receive mythical weapons. The roadmap for four seasons ahead is packed to capacity: there is the 10th anniversary of the game, new maps, and stadium heroes.

How will Overwatch x Hello Kitty and the “Subgroups” redesign esports?

Most popular picks in 2026

If you thought that the collaboration with Hello Kitty was just cute bows, then you were very wrong. The first real test for the updated reality will be the pre-season tournament at the end of February, where we will see how pro players adapt to the chaos even before the official start of OWCS Stage 1.

Now everyone is wondering if the five newcomers of season 1 will be able to immediately kick out of the meta the veterans who have been sitting there for years. In fact, 2026 promises to be the most unpredictable year in the history of the discipline, and it’s honestly pretty damn cool.

The impact of the jungle system on esports meta

In truth, the introduction of “Subgroups” is not just a cosmetic change, but a real tactical explosion. These add-ons will allow top characters to open up even more powerfully, giving cyber athletes additional leverage to dominate the skating rinks.

In general, the strategy layout is now as follows:

  • Synergy: The composition of the team is now not just a choice of heroes, but the complex mathematics of “Subgroups” and perks.
  • Flexibility: Professionals will have to retrain on the fly, because the old bundles, apparently, no longer work.
  • Dominance: An extra passive in the hands of a master can decide the outcome of the final — and this is not an exaggeration.

Now that perks and subgroups have appeared in the arsenal, team management will become more important than mechanical skill. It’s interesting to see how the teams will get out in the face of such an overload of mechanics. Apparently, the winner is the one who cracks this new game code the fastest.
