Rayman fans, take a deep breath and tense up at the same time—it seems Ubisoft is preparing the return of the legendary platformer after all. And not just anywhere, but with a remake of Rayman Legends. Insider Tom Henderson, who previously linked a project codenamed Steambot to the series, has now revealed new details: development is progressing well, and behind the scenes, the remake is receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews.

The main thing is to preserve everything fans loved about the 2013 original. Including co-op. Henderson bluntly states: “everything people loved about this game” will remain.

To recap: after Rayman Legends, the hero only appeared sporadically—for example, in DLC for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. A full-fledged sequel hasn’t been released in over ten years. Ubisoft officially confirmed that Montpellier and Milan studios were working on “the future Rayman,” but without providing specifics. Recently, the publisher’s official TikTok account responded to a fan’s question with a curt, “We’re working on it.”

Now Henderson’s leak adds a bolder twist. However, there’s no official announcement yet. Amid Ubisoft’s internal problems and prolonged silence, many had given up, thinking the series would be a thing of the past. But apparently, the jump-and-run game with the green hero is here to stay. All we have to do is wait for Ubisoft to reveal the announcement.

Rayman Remake Announcement Timeline and Insider Details

According to Henderson, news of the project could break as early as this summer. If the insider’s leak is accurate, Ubisoft will finally unveil the return of Rayman that fans have been waiting for over a decade.

For now, the publisher is keeping completely silent: no platforms, no visual style, not even a clear format. Is it a remake? A new platformer? A collection? Unknown.

But the main thing remains unchanged: the franchise is still alive. If the Legends remake truly retains that same spirit—with co-op, a wild soundtrack, and levels you’ll want to replay dozens of times—for many players, it will be one of the most exciting returns of the legend in recent years. And that’s not just empty words.

Rayman’s Official Status and Ubisoft’s Development

Ubisoft is clearly tired of hiding its mascot in dusty corners. While previously limited to guest DLC for Mario + Rabbids and the occasional nostalgic posts, the publisher is now openly announcing its work on “Future of Rayman.” The audience has already begun to warm up (and that’s no exaggeration)—from the suspicious marketing activity surrounding the series’ 30th anniversary to the cryptic “Cooking” response on the official TikTok page. It’s a classic formula. The French, in the same way, gently tested the waters before the announcements of the new Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell.

The information surrounding the project is a wild mix of press releases and leaks. If you cut through the fluff, the 2024 roadmap looks like this:

  • Strong Foundation: The project is in active production. Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan are developing it, and the team includes specialists who successfully launched Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
  • Insider Gaming: The internal codename for the new game is Steambot. Tom Henderson claims that the company is currently testing the Rayman Legends remake, and the developers will definitely retain the co-op mode.
  • Long-Term Plans: A full-fledged Rayman 4 is indeed being discussed behind the scenes, but its release depends on how audiences receive the return of the classic.

Ubisoft Montpellier and the UbiArt engine

Fans were particularly excited by the comeback of Ubisoft Montpellier. This is the team that produced the brilliant Rayman Origins and the original Rayman Legends. They used the UbiArt Framework, a luxurious 2D tool that gave platformers incredible live-action animation that still outshines many modern titles.

Debunking Rayman 4 and Open World Rumors

Meanwhile, the internet continues to swell with utter nonsense. No Ori-style open world is planned, the transition to full 3D is unsubstantiated, and rumors of battle passes are simply community panic. A staunch Nintendo console exclusive also seems like an unlikely fantasy. Ultimately, the publisher’s strategy is crystal clear: the company will release a safe reimagining of old hits, gauge public interest, and then decide whether to greenlight a full-fledged title. They’re not ready to immediately invest huge budgets in an unpredictable genre.
