If we take the genre’s leading heavyweights as a benchmark, Gothic doesn’t fare well. Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake, released in March 2023, sold 3 million copies in just two days. By the end of the year, its sales had surpassed 5 million. Dead Space, remastered by Motive Studio (Electronic Arts), fared more modestly, with lower sales figures over the same period, and total sales of around 2 million copies.
