The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 open beta has started on Nintendo Switch 2. It runs from 28 August at 10:00 PT until 1 September at 10:00 PT.

The beta includes multiplayer and Ground War

Players can test standard multiplayer matches and the larger Ground War mode. The download also includes one campaign mission for a short look at the single-player controls. An Activision account is required. Nintendo allows players to preload the client, which reduces the wait after the test window begins. Standard multiplayer gives Switch 2 players the familiar smaller-team test. Matches emphasize weapon handling, movement and quick respawns across the available beta maps. Ground War expands the scale and creates longer sight lines, vehicles and more players around each objective. The two modes can expose different performance problems during the same test window.

The progression reset means beta levels and unlocked equipment will not become launch-day advantages. Everyone begins the retail progression under the rules of the finished game. Specific participation rewards are an exception because they are linked to listed beta tasks. Those rewards follow the account, not the temporary level. The 23 October launch will contain a broader selection than the beta. Activision has not placed every map, mode and campaign mission in the public test. Players should judge the available systems while recognizing the limited content.

Missing retail features are not automatically evidence that they were removed from the finished game.

Progress will reset before launch

Levels and equipment earned during the beta will not transfer to the full game. Activision is using the test to collect performance and gameplay data. Selected participation rewards will carry to the release version. The official beta page lists the required tasks and the account used to receive them. The campaign mission serves another purpose. It allows players to examine aiming, controls and visual performance without the unpredictable load of a full multiplayer lobby. One mission cannot represent the complete story. It provides a limited sample of single-player presentation alongside the competitive modes.

A reset also gives developers freedom to alter costs and unlock order after the test. Data may show that one item appears too early or that a weapon is rarely selected. Adjusting those values before release is easier when temporary progress does not have to be preserved. Player feedback complements the numerical match data. For Nintendo’s new hardware, the weekend provides an important network test. Many players will enter at once, switch between portable and docked use and try different connection conditions. The collected results can reveal platform-specific issues before launch. The purpose is therefore wider than promoting the game through free access.

The full game arrives in October

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for 23 October. The beta is a limited test and does not contain the complete map, mode or campaign list. Players who encounter a problem can use the beta feedback channel. A report is more useful when it includes the mode, map and action that occurred before the issue. An Activision account connects participation to the publisher’s services. Players who preload can install most of the client before the opening time.

The open test gives players another environment in which to check movement and performance.

That step does not grant early access. The servers become available at 10:00 PT on 28 August and the public test closes at the same time on 1 September.

Useful reports include the map, mode and action before a problem occurred. A short description such as ‘the game stopped’ gives the team little context. Naming a Ground War location, a menu step or a campaign checkpoint makes reproduction more realistic. Performance issues should also include whether they happened once or repeatedly. The fixed closing time makes the final day shorter than a full local day in many regions. Players should convert Pacific Time before planning a late session. The test does not continue until midnight in every country. Once the server window closes, the beta client no longer provides access to its listed matches and mission.
