Madden NFL 27 has received its first major title update. The release concentrates on Franchise Mode, Superstar stability and menu problems rather than changing on-field gameplay.
EA has also outlined a smaller gameplay update for next week. That later release will address unnecessary receiver jumps, contain blocking, defensive auto flip and aggressive blocking penalties.

The update fixes excessive fatigue for computer-controlled teams
A Franchise error caused computer-controlled teams to collect too much wear and tear early in games. The same problem prevented them from managing practice loads correctly. The update corrects that calculation. EA says computer-controlled teams now manage pads, repetitions and rest more effectively. This change improves roster health across a season.
This fix affects more than one match. Excessive injuries can change depth charts, contract decisions and the strength of future opponents.
Existing leagues may show the benefit as the season continues, although injuries that already happened are not removed from a saved history.
College Coach abilities now unlock in new leagues
The College Coach archetype failed to unlock its exclusive abilities. EA has fixed the issue for newly created Franchise leagues. The correction does not add those abilities to coaches that already exist in an older save. The complete archetype is available only in a newly created league.
The exclusive list includes Campus Conditioning, Coach’s Curriculum, Familiar Landscape, Drill Efficiency, New School and Power Program. The limitation is important because it changes the benefit of the fix. A long-running league can continue, but it will not receive the missing coach progression automatically.
The update fixes imported players and salary cap calculation errors
Created players could disappear after one game when a custom roster was imported during league setup. The update fixes the loss for new leagues that import the roster again. EA also corrected the way void years affected the salary cap after a contract expired.

The old calculation treated the final year incorrectly instead of moving the relevant cap charges forward.
Both errors damaged long-term team building. One removed players from the roster, while the other changed available money in later seasons. The fixes give league creators a more stable starting point. The roster repair applies when the custom roster is imported during the setup of a new league.

| User-created team rosters | Created players remain in newly created leagues |

| On-field gameplay | A separate update is planned for next week |
The update improves stability in Superstar mode
The update fixes a crash that could follow quitting a Showdown 1v1 game during an extra point. A rare Nintendo Switch 2 loading crash in a 3v3 friend match also receives a repair. The update improves the stability of avatar creation, clothing, equipment and attribute menus. EA also repaired problems when entering or leaving Superstar, signing contracts and advancing through post-game screens.
These changes do not add a new Superstar storyline. They focus on preventing progress from stopping because a menu or transition fails. The developer continues to investigate rare front-end crashes and store errors. Those items are not presented as completed fixes in the current release.
Next week’s patch will change on-field gameplay
The current update does not change core gameplay beyond general stability. EA has separated the on-field adjustments into a smaller release planned for next week. EA plans to reduce unnecessary receiver jumps. The planned patch also improves blocking against contain rushers and makes the defence follow formation flips when Auto Flip is active.
Aggressive Blocking will also produce more holding calls. That change gives the coach adjustment a clearer risk instead of offering extra blocking pressure with too little cost. Separating the releases makes the current status easier to understand. Franchise and Superstar fixes are live now, while the listed gameplay changes remain part of the next update.
