Yesterday, the gaming world paused for a moment to count the days. August 18, 2026—exactly 2,077 days separate us from December 10, 2020, when Cyberpunk 2077 burst into reality with a deafening roar. The number, coinciding with the title, turned an ordinary date into a symbolic milestone, one that didn’t go unnoticed by the creators.

Pavel Sasko couldn’t contain his emotions.

CD Projekt Red quest director and co-director of the sequel Pavel Sasko—the very man who designed the quests and saw the game from the inside at every stage—took to social media with a candid post. “My dears, today is exactly 2,077 days since the premiere of Cyberpunk 2077. What an adventure it was, my dears,” he wrote. Sasko admitted that he often recalls the announcement, the release day, the thrill as the game’s ratings slowly climbed with each patch, and the satisfaction when the expansion arrived. “Madness and magic,” he summed up. The message once again featured tearful emojis—not of pain, but of joy.

Atonement that lasted 2,077 days

Over the years, CD Projekt Red has accomplished a colossal amount of work. The game, which received scathing reviews at launch due to its technical state, had reached an 86% rating on Steam by August 2026, with nearly a million reviews. The Phantom Liberty expansion gave the project a second wind. The studio released patches, fixed them, polished them, and ultimately regained the trust of a significant portion of the audience. The transformation that Cyberpunk 2077 has undergone is perhaps the most high-profile case of revival in the history of the industry.

However, studio co-head Michal Nowakowski is cooling his ardor: the team’s final test will be the release of The Witcher 4 and subsequent projects. Previous mistakes have been learned—or so one would like to believe. The test lies ahead.

What’s next?

Sasko is currently the game director for the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. The project doesn’t have a specific release date yet, and details haven’t been revealed. But the very fact that someone who survived a disastrous release is now leading the sequel speaks volumes. The story of redemption continues.
