The Story of Nocturne
Nocturne isn’t a person who became something dark; it’s the darkness itself, assembled out of nightmares shared by every thinking mind in Runeterra. There’s no fixed shape to point to, only a shifting outline with no face to speak of, a pair of cold eyes, and blades that look wrong before they even move, a form that shifts because it was never meant to hold still.
It didn’t arrive gradually. Nocturne broke free from the spirit realm and came straight into the waking world already fully formed, already hungry. What it feeds on isn’t blood or territory but terror itself, specifically the kind that only exists in true darkness, which gives it every reason to chase down the moment right before someone realizes they’re in danger.
Umbra Blades charges up every few seconds into an attack that hits everything nearby and heals him, a cooldown his own basic attacks shorten further. Duskbringer throws a blade that leaves a trail he can move through freely, Shroud of Darkness lets him vanish behind a barrier that blocks one incoming spell, and Unspeakable Horror plants a fear that punishes anyone who doesn’t get clear in time. Paranoia, his ultimate, blinds every enemy champion’s sight and strips their shared vision before he closes in on whichever one he’s chosen. Among fellow forces with no single homeland, Fiddlesticks hunts through a similar kind of dread.
Nocturne fights as a Fighter-Assassin from Top or Mid lane, running on mana despite his otherworldly nature. Paranoia is worth activating even in moments when the dash itself isn’t strictly needed, and Duskbringer doubles as an escape tool as much as an opener, letting him close distance or slip away along its trail. Baiting a disable into Shroud of Darkness before following up with Paranoia’s dash is a common trick against opponents who panic. Anyone facing him is generally safer sticking close to allies once Paranoia is cast, and since Unspeakable Horror’s fear breaks at range, holding a movement ability in reserve for exactly that moment tends to matter more than reacting to anything else in his kit.
