Defensive Ball Curl vastly increases his armor and magic resist and returns damage to anything attacking him, which is the worst possible wall for a champion whose damage arrives as repeated on-hit strikes. Spiked Shell then converts those resistances back into attack damage, so stacking defence makes Rammus more dangerous rather than merely harder to finish. The record agrees: Viego sits at 44.8% across 1,004 games on patch 16.13.1.

Frenzying Taunt removes the choice altogether, forcing Viego to keep swinging into the returned damage, and Soaring Slam adds a knockup when it follows Powerball. Neither resistance profile helps him much, since he holds 34 armor and 32 magic resist while Rammus deals mixed damage. The genuine opening is longevity and speed. Rammus tops out at 2,345 health by level 18 against Viego’s 2,483, and outside Powerball he travels at 335 against 345, so leaving a failed engage is possible. Powerball is also his one fast opener, which makes vision around terrain valuable: Harrowed Path grants Viego camouflage, move speed and attack speed while he waits inside the Black Mist. Heartbreaker still executes, Sovereign’s Domination still rewards a takedown on anything nearby, and Viego spends no resource while Rammus pays mana. Health favours Rammus early at 645 to 630.
