Smolder is a stacking champion. Dragon Practice counts ability hits on champions and kills secured with Super Scorcher Breath, and the stacks raise his damage as they accumulate, so every minute the game stays quiet is a minute he gains. Sylas is built to deny exactly that.

The distance looks prohibitive at first, 550 attack range against 175, and Abscond answers it. The dash recasts into Abduct, throwing chains that pull him to whatever they hit, and Kingslayer lunges the rest of the way while healing him against champions. Smolder’s own escape, Flap, Flap, Flap, ignores terrain and bombards the lowest-health enemy, which is movement without safety once Sylas is already adjacent. Behind it he carries 575 base health, 2,275 at level 18 and 24 base armor against 600, 2,674 and 29.

Damage types split cleanly. Smolder deals physical into an opponent who reaches 117.4 armor by level 18, while Sylas deals magic into 30 base magic resistance on a marksman, and neither side has a reason to itemize against the other’s second damage source. Smolder also moves at 330 against 340 and carries no hard crowd control, so his escape from an Abduct pull is Flap, Flap, Flap or nothing at all. Over 207 games on patch 16.13.1, Sylas wins 62.8 percent against Smolder. The sample is modest; the mechanics behind it are not subtle.
