G2 Esports defeated Cloud9 in two maps during VCT Americas Stage 2. G2 controlled Breeze from the opening rounds. Cloud9 competed longer on Sunset before G2 pulled away.

Every G2 player contributed during the winning series. Cloud9 depended heavily on v1c and OXY during the second map. The wider G2 contribution decided both closing phases.

Breeze gives G2 an immediate advantage

Cloud9 selected Breeze after the opening bans. G2 began on attack and won the first eleven rounds. That run left Cloud9 with almost no room for recovery. The half ended 11-1 after Cloud9 finally added one defensive round.

G2 spread the eliminations throughout its lineup. Valyn recorded sixteen kills and died only five times. Trent, leaf and jawgemo also reached double figures. Their combined work stopped Cloud9 from building consecutive rounds.

The score did not come from one repeated duel. G2 found openings in several parts of the map. Three players recorded at least two first eliminations. BABYBAY added three and survived most of the completed rounds.

Cloud9’s single round came before the side change. Zellsis led the team with nine kills on Breeze. The other four players finished with six kills or fewer. G2 then won both defensive rounds and ended the map 13-1.

Cloud9 produce a closer opening on Sunset

Sunset was G2’s choice and began with a more balanced half. G2 took seven attacking rounds, while Cloud9 collected five. Cloud9 entered the interval one round from level terms. OXY and v1c supplied most of the team’s early damage.

V1c finished Sunset with nineteen kills and a positive difference. OXY added seventeen and also created five first eliminations. Those figures gave Cloud9 several workable starts. The team still struggled to convert enough of them after planting.

G2 answered with steady output from all five players. Jawgemo led the winners with seventeen kills on the map. BABYBAY followed with fifteen, while valyn added fourteen. No G2 player finished Sunset below eleven kills.

The first half lasted longer than the whole closing sequence. Cloud9 had traded rounds and kept the economy competitive. G2 reached the side change with a narrow lead. The next phase quickly turned that lead into a clear result.

G2 pull away after the Sunset interval

Cloud9 entered the Sunset interval close to G2. OXY and v1c had created several workable attacking starts. The match still changed quickly after the teams swapped sides.

G2 defended the central routes with patient crossfires. Trent stayed alive and supported teammates during close retakes. Valyn and leaf denied the space Cloud9 needed after planting.

Cloud9’s leading players continued to find opening damage. The follow-up trades were less reliable during the closing run. G2 usually kept another player ready behind the first contact.

The stronger defence turned a narrow lead into a comfortable finish. Cloud9 could not restore the economy after losing consecutive attacks. G2 closed Sunset without repeating the same plan from Breeze.

Two maps show different G2 strengths

Breeze was decided by immediate attacking pressure. G2 entered sites before Cloud9 completed its defensive setup. The opening map therefore moved away very quickly.

Sunset stayed competitive through the first half. Cloud9 found more openings and forced G2 into longer rounds. The winners responded with a much stronger defensive phase.

Jawgemo supplied the largest G2 damage total across the series. Trent, valyn, leaf and BABYBAY remained close enough to share responsibility. Cloud9 did not find one weak target to attack repeatedly.

V1c and OXY gave Cloud9 its clearest positive spell. Their Sunset work made the second map a real contest. G2’s deeper lineup then decided the final sequence.

G2 turn good openings into short maps

Jawgemo finished as G2’s leading scorer across the two maps. His entries created space without leaving the team unable to trade. Trent added assists throughout the series and linked the later fights. Cloud9 struggled to break that shared structure.

Breeze became difficult for Cloud9 almost immediately. G2 controlled the first engagements and preserved enough players afterward. That left Cloud9 with few realistic recovery rounds. The opening map ended with a wide margin.

Cloud9 began Sunset with a better defensive response. The team reached the side change with a closer score. G2 then won six defensive rounds to complete the match. The adjustment removed Cloud9’s chance to force a third map.

G2 collected the win through several different contributors. No single duel decided the full series. The team followed strong openings with reliable trades and retakes. Cloud9 took seven rounds across an unusually short match.

G2’s communication remained clear when Sunset became more competitive. Players rotated before Cloud9 could attack the same weakness twice. That response stopped the second map from following the early trading pattern. Cloud9 found good individual rounds, but G2 controlled the longer sequence.

Cloud9’s Sunset performance still offered a stronger base than the opener. V1c and OXY created pressure that was missing on Breeze. G2 adjusted its defensive positions before the final run. That change stopped Cloud9 from repeating the same successful entries.
