Although the combat itself was excellent, it felt like the game was released in a hurry, long before it became a full-fledged product. Over time, Capcom brought the “five” to mind, added everything necessary and even re-released it several times. But the question was in the air: will the same story repeat itself with the sixth part? The answer was encouraging – not just will not repeat itself. You can be attacked by bandits, thugs or just strange passers-by – and you will gladly respond to them. For victory they give all sorts of useful things: money, heals and other loot. And if you think that fights are not enough – challenge anyone to a fight. Seriously, even grannies on benches are ready to fight you without further ado. And here the name of the game is fully revealed – you really become a street fighter.
The city lives by the laws of RPG: first aid kits (here these are energy drinks) are sold by merchants, fast food heals and buffs characteristics, and in boutiques you can pick up stylish clothes with bonuses to damage, protection and health. Of course, leveling up is also in place – for completing tasks and participating in fights, you get skill points and spend them on leveling up “passives”. A lot of things are only unlocked through side quests – from unique clothes to fast travel points on the map.
It’s clear that they’ve worked hard on the mode. This is a great entry point for those who previously avoided fighting games: you don’t need to spend hours studying lists of moves or cramming timings. You just walk around the city, complete tasks, get to know the characters and gradually get drawn into the mechanics. Meet a legendary fighter – get his style. Now your hero can copy his movements, and as you level up – his moves. And they work the same way as in classic fights, so having trained in the storyline, you can easily switch to competitive mode.

The story? Well, it’s more for show here. The stories of famous heroes are revealed to a minimum, the conflicts between gangs are not particularly intriguing. But this is not a problem – people do not go to such games for the sake of great drama. The main thing is the gameplay. And it is addictive here. Constant skirmishes, exploration of areas (for example, you can, like Chun-Li, spin upside down and break boxes in search of bonuses – it never gets boring), mini-games – everything is done with soul. This time, Capcom went further and added a real role-playing element – the World Tour mode, in which you create your own fighter and go on a journey through fictional and real cities, upgrading skills, learning the styles of other heroes and collecting equipment. But the coolest thing is that the character created in this mode will be useful not only in the single-player campaign. It becomes your full-fledged avatar, which can be used in online modes. One of these modes – Battle Hub – is a real find for those who missed the spirit of old arcades. Everything here seems to have come from the pages of a futuristic manga: a spacious hall, dozens of arcade machines, noise, neon light and a crowd of motley players. Everyone comes with their own avatar – someone made a hero with hypertrophied muscles, someone – a comical cyborg with long arms, and there are those whose characters look like they escaped from a horror movie.
You sit down at the machine, wait for someone to come up – and here you are already fighting. There is a special charm in this: you literally “live” in the game world, instead of a dry search for an opponent in the menu. And if you really want to measure the strength of your pumped-up avatar, you can jump into a special queue in the center of the hall. Just keep in mind – without developed skills and normal equipment, it is better not to go there. Local veterans will quickly destroy any newcomer.
But if you want something more familiar – welcome to Fighting Ground. This is a classic section, where all the main modes familiar to fans of the series are collected. Here you will find a whole selection of activities:

- Combo challenges — training missions where you hone your moves and combinations;

Capcom has done a truly outstanding job with training. It’s not just there — it’s become a full-fledged system. Each move is accompanied by an explanation: when to use it, how to combine it, where the weak points are. Right in training, you get a mini-lecture on the character’s game design. Previously, for such knowledge, you had to go to YouTube, watch analyzes from pro players, and collect information bit by bit. Now all this is right in the game — convenient, clear, and very detailed. For beginners, this approach will save a lot of time and nerves.
The Drive Gauge mechanic deserves special attention – a new feature that makes battles more tactical and intense. The hero’s health bar is filled from the very beginning of the battle and is used for a number of actions. The most spectacular of them is Drive Impact, a powerful blow that can knock the enemy down, break through a block or interrupt an attack. But there is a nuance: if the opponent activates Drive Impact in response, he will win the clash and get a chance to attack first. Therefore, you can’t blindly press the button – you need to think, anticipate and wait for the moment. There is also an alternative in defense – Drive Parry. This is not just a block, but an active parry. If you press it in time, you will completely reflect the blow and even restore some energy. Unlike regular blocking, which only reduces damage, parrying gives real advantages and reduces the depletion of the gauge. And if you bring the gauge to zero – trouble: the hero enters a special vulnerable state, begins to glow and becomes an easy target. One hit of Drive Impact — and you are already knocked down, and the enemy happily starts a combination. Therefore, managing this bar is the key to success. Especially if you use Overdrive moves — they are powerful, but expensive, and you can’t waste the resource thoughtlessly.
The new system is deeply integrated into the familiar Street Fighter gameplay. And if before the series was famous for its technicality and dynamics, now a strategic component is added to this. The fights have become smarter, more difficult, but at the same time they have not lost any of their drive. On the contrary — you look at all this splendor of animations, smooth transitions from one move to another, and you just can’t tear yourself away. One round is replaced by another, and now you don’t notice how an hour has flown by.
The old heroes feel great here: Ryu, Ken, Guile, Chan-Li — all the same charismatic and recognizable, but slightly updated. And the newcomers are real nuggets. JP, Manon, Marisa — they all look impressive and at the same time add new mechanics to the game. What’s nice is that the balance is still holding: there are no pronounced imbalances or weaklings. Although yes, Zangief has a hard time against JP — the long-range sorcerer keeps the wrestler at a distance, and you literally have to bite off the victory with your teeth. But even such matches are interesting: they require tactics, preparation, and do not forgive mistakes.
And finally — the controls. Here, Capcom also took a step towards new players. In addition to the classic scheme with six punch buttons, they added a modern one — simpler and more accessible. Three buttons are responsible for weak, medium and strong attacks, the fourth — for special moves. And combos can be activated by simply holding the trigger. Yes, some advanced techniques are not available in this scheme, such as animation cancellations, but for beginners this is a great way to get into the game. Learn the basic mechanics, understand the logic of fights, and only then move on to more complex controls.
Street Fighter 6 is both a love of tradition and the courage of experimentation. The game is not afraid to change, but respects its history. It is still the same fighting game that has been played in tournaments for decades, but now it has become much friendlier, richer and more diverse. Newcomers will find a comfortable entry here, veterans – depth and challenge. And most importantly – with each new fight you want to play more and more.
