Spyro, of course, became a real star – charismatic, with enthusiasm, it is pleasant to watch him even outside the gameplay. Perhaps, this is exactly how he should have been from the very beginning. And the dragons in the first part were thoroughly pumped up – now they not only have interesting images, but also more individuality. But there were also some controversial moments. Old fans will most likely notice: there is noticeably less violence. And what remains is carefully polished. For example, snowballs no longer melt from fire, but simply fly off to the side. And instead of the usual bullets, enemies shoot some kind of pink substance. It is clear that the game is aimed at a younger audience, but still – a little hooliganism sometimes would not hurt.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy: How the Remake of a Beloved Classic Feels Today

With remakes, as is often the case, everything is not so simple. Especially when the game is transferred to a new engine – changes in control are almost inevitable. Spyro Reignited Trilogy is no exception. Everything has become faster, more dynamic, but it is not immediately felt.

On land and in water, such agility is only beneficial: Spyro now rushes like crazy, and this makes the usual levels more lively. But in the air, it’s a completely different story. To be honest, bonus flight levels were not for everyone even in the original. And now it’s a direct test of stress resistance. If you miss even by a second – that’s it, start over. The time reserve is minimal, mistakes are not forgiven. New tests are sometimes more like patience tests: “fly so many seconds and set a record” – well, thank you. Although the levels for finding objects, on the contrary, are pleasing – done with imagination.

The menu and interface have noticeably changed – in a good way. You no longer need to run around the map to get to the desired point. Now it is enough to select a target and teleport there with one click. This will be especially appreciated by those who remember the first part – with its hassles with saving. Now everything is simpler:

• checkpoints work reliably and several times if you pass by;
• side quests are displayed right above the heads of NPCs – no more guessing who wants what;
• moving between worlds is literally a couple of clicks.

Minimum unnecessary, maximum usefulness – and all the attention is on the main thing: battles and cleanup. If you missed the original Spyro, then briefly: this is a classic 3D platformer. You run through levels, collect crystals, defeat enemies – everything we love. Only crystals here are not just for show, especially in the second and third parts. There are other, plot-important objects – they draw you into what is happening a little deeper.

What we liked:

• The visuals are simply a feast for the eyes, a real feast for the eyes
• The sound and music have been pleasantly updated, but remain true to the spirit of the original
• Convenient interface and clear menu – everything is in its place
• The levels delight with interesting and sometimes unexpected challenges

What could have been better:

• Flying has become noticeably more difficult – get ready for a challenge
• Some characters look different than in older versions – not everyone will like it
• The Russian language has not been brought in yet – for some it will be a barrier

Overall, this is a great example of how to make a remake. Spyro Reignited Trilogy does not seek to reinvent the wheel. Its task is to preserve the soul of the original, add gloss and make friends with the old game with the new generation. Well, it turned out almost perfect.
