Although this system can be practically ignored by completing the game without a single visit to the merchant, the very fact of its existence gives the game depth.

Like its dark, thoughtful story, memorable characters, and detailed world, these mechanics are rare in shooters, but they are welcome here. Playing Metro: Last Light on PlayStation 3 was a real challenge – and not just because of the harsh post-apocalyptic world. The technical problems I encountered were hard to ignore. Some of them are familiar – screen tearing, textures loading with a delay, but there were also more unpleasant moments. The game froze so badly several times that I had to manually restart the console. The most annoying incident occurred at the end, completely ruining the atmosphere of the climax.

In addition, frequent autosaves often caused short-term frame rate drops, which made it seem like the console froze again for a few seconds. But the most annoying bug was in one of the levels, when enemies simply ignored my presence. I could freely walk through the entire location, and the enemies remained motionless, as if they had forgotten that they were supposed to react at all. Moreover, the problem was easily reproduced – loading the last autosave led to the same effect, until the game froze again during one of these “battles”.

Switching to Xbox 360, I immediately noticed that texture loading left much to be desired, but otherwise the game worked more stably. There were no screen tears, and freezes occurred less often. However, some colleagues playing on Xbox 360 also encountered freezes and sudden crashes. Metro: Last Light is a game full of contrasts. Its atmosphere and plot are fascinating, but technical problems can ruin the effect of presence.

The developers tried to create a tense and realistic world, but periodic crashes, freezes and control problems prevent you from enjoying it to the fullest. If you are ready to put up with these shortcomings for the sake of an unforgettable journey through the dark tunnels of the Moscow metro, then the game is definitely worth your attention.
