The plot of this game is centered around an interesting conflict in which North Korea launches a daring attack on the United States. In Homefront, the future is 2027. America is being captured by the great Korean Republic, which without thinking twice has subjugated the United States, the regular army has been destroyed, and only ordinary people who have organized guerrilla uprisings can fight. The main character is a military pilot who is taken away by the suddenly arriving invaders and dragged onto a bus. This is perhaps one of the most atmospheric moments of the game: while we are driving, a scripted action is taking place outside the window – shootouts, panic, and other horrors of war.

One could even call this moment very original if there were no Modern Warfare and Black Ops, however, there are very few spectacular scenes and interesting situations here, and some of those that are there are shamelessly stolen from Infinity Ward. Here the reference is too obvious. But we don’t have time to think about all this, because a truck crashes into the bus, which, by all rights, should have killed everyone inside, including us. But since we are the main characters, we, of course, survive.

In such shooters, the main character always survives some kind of accident at the beginning of the game, which displeases many players. Many do not understand why this technique is used, but why not? And then we find out that what happened was not an accident, we were saved.

Thus, the Resistance decides to save the main character, because they need a pilot. From this moment, shootouts begin – enemies are knocking down from everywhere, clamping down with dense fire, which is why you often have to spend time in cover and restore HP in Homefront. Players played on high difficulty. Remembering the same Singularity, we can confidently say that the shooter mechanics there were not so mediocre, but shooting in Homefront is so uninteresting that players are truly surprised.

Shooting in Homefront: When Even Good Weapon Models Don’t Save You

It all starts with the spread – it is terrible. The sounds of shooting are not pleasing at all, which is why shootouts only get worse. Even my favorites – shotguns and sniper rifles – do not save the situation at all. The former are too weak against other weapons, and there are only a couple of the latter in the game . And there is practically no room for using optical sights. The only thing that can please even a little in this game is the weapon models in Homefront. They are made well, look nice, and you can even stare at them. Not bad at all. It’s just a pity that you have to shoot them, and not just look at them – there is no point in that. The recoil is not the best. Completely changes the shooting gameplay. But when I was given the M9 pistol in the first mission, I thought that the shooting would be better.

Homefront: why is monotony worse than bad innovation?

The developers tried to introduce at least some variety. For example, we will be given the most ordinary partisan jalopy, which is capable of shooting down enemy Hummers in Homefront. There will also be a rather dull semi-stealth mission, in which you need to go from script to script and shoot at enemies only on command.

And at the end, we will be allowed to fly a helicopter, which is more like a flying hero, because the laws of physics clearly do not apply to it. But the mission is simple, and it is quite difficult to die on it. Personally, no matter how badly they screwed up, they still couldn’t fail the exam in Homefront. Surprisingly, there’s even an achievement for not dying even once. Apparently, someone thought it was hard.

And you know, everyone is very glad that this game is short. You can run for three hours – and that’s taking into account the large number of deaths and screw-ups. But at the same time, players feel like they spent all ten hours in it. By the end, everyone was just tired of boredom and the monotony of local tasks. And every time the developers tried to do at least something interesting, it turned out even worse than a regular shootout.

Not the best sound in Homefront

But you know, there is definitely one thing that is worse than the gameplay of Homefront. It is the sound.

Honestly, fans of the game do not understand whether this is a jamb of the English localization or the original game, but it is simply amazing. The thing is that some sound effects completely ignore the volume settings. For example, the sounds of cables are 10 times louder than the rest of the game, although they should just be a background effect. The same with the engine of the jalopy in the last mission in Homefront. And a bunch of other sounds unexpectedly knock out your ears. This game manages to scare better than some horror films! Many did not expect to hear screamers here. Although, on the other hand, it has so many bugs that, in principle, you do not want to play. But you can also note the plus and the network mode is interesting.

Homefront system requirements

To run Homefront, you will need at least 2GB of RAM and 10GB of free storage space to ensure the game runs smoothly. The minimum graphics card required is a GeForce 7900 GS, but if you are looking for a more immersive experience, the developers highly recommend upgrading to a GeForce GTX 260 for better performance and graphics. As for upgrading the processor, a Core 2 Duo E4600 is the absolute minimum requirement. However, if you want to up the game settings and truly enjoy a smoother and better gaming experience, it is wise to consider going with an A6-5400K or better processor.
