Anger Foot Review – Free Download on Steam
Anger Foot is a wild ride that distills the essence of fast-paced action into a first-person experience reminiscent of “Hotline Miami.” With its compact levels and one-hit mechanics, both you and your enemies face a high-stakes game of aggression and efficiency. The standout feature? Your character’s signature angry kick, which brings a unique twist to the gameplay. This isn’t just a mechanic; it’s the heart of the game, offering players a satisfying way to dispatch foes while navigating through tight, maze-like environments. Whether you’re trading kicks for stylish footwear or adjusting your strategy on the fly, Anger Foot keeps you on your toes with its unpredictable challenges.

Anger Foot Review by VpeSports
I don’t want to reduce Anger Foot to a simple “Hotline Miami First Person”, but that’s pretty much it. Enemies go down in one hit, and so do you (with a few exceptions), and levels are compact mazes where each room requires you to be as aggressive and efficient as possible. The game’s main innovation is your angry kick, which is not to be confused with the game’s protagonist, Anger Foot.
- Fast-paced action reminiscent of “Hotline Miami” in first-person.
- Enemies and player can be taken down in a single hit.
- Compact maze-like levels promote aggression and efficiency.
- Unique mechanic: the angry kick adds depth to gameplay.
- Shoe swapping introduces strategic twists and replayability.
A moment that particularly stood out to me was when I swapped my favorite shoes, the Chargers (which grant the ability to quickly close in on enemies and instantly kill them), for a pair of stylish heels to complete a mission challenge. The surprise was that these “hot” heels caused bullets to only stun enemies, while projectiles killed them outright. Having to replay the level with a completely different approach was the best Anger Foot had to offer: a Hotline Miami-like dynamic with some unexpected twists thanks to clever design.
Pediatric Perfection
You’re always one button press away from one of the best instant kicks I’ve ever seen in a game. Anger Foot’s kick has its own unique feel, different from the iconic NPC kicks in Dark Messiah or Deathloop – it kills enemies outright instead of knocking them into traps. It’s incredibly satisfying. Every encounter begins with you kicking down a door with your heavy boot, often sending it straight into an enemy for an instant kill. It’s an amazing mechanic, and my only gripe is that the power-up that activates time slowdown when you kick a door isn’t unlocked until the very end of the game.
I really like how Anger Foot emphasizes the kick, both thematically and mechanically. Sure, the main character is a sneakerhead, and the entire plot begins with stealing his collection, and all your upgrades are different pairs of shoes: shoes like Birkenstocks for an extra life, Timbs for a “big head” mode, and those high heels that transform throws are just a few examples. There are clear winners and losers in the arsenal: some pairs deliberately make the game harder, while the jump attack and shoes with slow-motion are simply better, but this is where the extra goals come into play.
Anger Foot is a cool action game
Each mission offers two optional objectives on top of the main objective of completing the level. There are a variety of speedruns (kill all enemies, no jumping), playstyle and loadout restrictions, creative combo kills, and even some hilarious secret objectives. I started out trying to complete all of the challenges, but the difficulty quickly ramped up, and some of them require power-ups that can only be unlocked later in the campaign.
- Each mission includes two optional objectives for added challenge.
- Variety of speedruns and playstyle restrictions keep gameplay fresh.
- Creative combo kills and secret objectives enhance replayability.
- Game length is around nine hours, with many side objectives.
- Exciting weapons and levels unlock in the second half of the game.
Anger Foot feels generous and dense, and its length is perfect for a level-based arcade shooter. I finished the game in about nine hours, leaving about 40% of the optional objectives uncompleted, but if you just ignore them, you can get by in under six hours. Anger Foot also saves a lot of interesting stuff for the second half of the game, with most of my favorite weapons, levels, and enemies appearing in the third and fourth of the four zones.
Adult Swim
I didn’t expect to like the aesthetics of Anger Foot, but it really got me. The game has a “grown-up comedy animation, but a really funny one” vibe. Titles like “Shit City” and “Minister of Crime” may seem silly or “cringe” as the kids say, but the jokes all worked for me – they were cheeky and fun without being forced.
One of the best things about Anger Foot is that the jokes don’t drag on, and most of the humor is strictly optional – there’s no funny command center or chatty gun that talks to you all the time. There are levels between fights with NPCs that you can interact with or just ignore, and each one delivers three or four-line jokes that usually made me smile. And if you get tired of someone, you can just kick them with no consequences. But my favorite moments are the many visual jokes that are easy to miss as you rush through the levels. For example, in the office conference room, all the chairs are toilets. It’s strange to say that a game full of hilarious toilet humor shows restraint, but it is.
Anger Foot also boasts surprisingly high-quality audio. Not only thanks to the soundtrack, which the developers inspired by Dutch club beats. Different shoes have unique footstep sounds, a real treat for fans of Thief. Particularly noteworthy are the funny beeps of the clown shoes and the oddly wet sounds of your bare feet. This thumping club soundtrack may not be everyone’s cup of tea: when I shared a clip of one of my favorite visual gags in the PC Gamer chat, the reaction to the music was less than enthusiastic. But I like it, and I think it fits well with the game’s street-fashion-poking vibe.
- Unique “grown-up comedy animation” style enhances the experience.
- Humorous titles like “Shit City” add cheeky charm to the game.
- Optional humor keeps dialogue light and engaging.
- Visual jokes, like toilet chairs, add layers to gameplay.
- High-quality audio complements the energetic soundtrack and effects.
My main issues were technical: the game has some “hilarious” bugs, like when a slam attack or high-kick weapons can send you flying out of the level. But I only encountered this misfortune the last time I tried to complete a difficult mission. More disappointing was Anger Foot’s performance: in particularly dense rooms, the frame rate dropped on my RTX 3070 and 2021 i5 CPU, and even on a 1280×960 monitor there was some stuttering.
Still, it wasn’t a deal-breaker for me, and I’m sure developer Free Lives can improve this with updates. We have a lot of indie shooters these days, but Anger Foot stands out: it’s a genuinely different experience from most classic shooters, and I can easily recommend it, whether you decide to play through it once or spend time mastering the additional challenges.
