Aliens vs. Predator Review – Free Download on Steam
Ever since the Predator and Aliens franchises hit the big screen, fans have been waiting for their epic showdown. In 2004, that dream finally came true… but unfortunately, in the form of a failed film. Another attempt followed in 2007, but it also failed to gain the recognition of viewers. Now, Rebellion Games, the studio known for the cult game AVP from 1999, has taken up the matter. The developers have decided to transfer the legendary battle into a game format, creating a project for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The new game will offer three intense story campaigns and a variety of multiplayer modes and maps that are designed to recreate the spirit of this epic clash.

Aliens vs. Predator Review
The single-player campaign certainly doesn’t reach the level of Call of Duty or BioShock, but it does a great job of capturing the atmosphere of the AVP universe. Each character has their own playstyle: the Marine is constantly on edge, the Predator goes hunting, and the Alien strikes and disappears without attracting too much attention. If the mechanics were developed in more depth and the location design was a little more creative, the game could have been truly outstanding. Luckily, the multiplayer mode fixes many of the shortcomings of the single-player campaign. Players are offered six competitive modes and six maps, plus a four-player co-op mode on two additional maps. This makes the game more interesting, especially if you have friends to hang out with. The variety of modes is pleasing: in one, Aliens infect Marines, in another, the Predator hunts down a group of people. When a match involves 18 players who know their strengths and work as a team, the real fun begins.
But there are some downsides here too. For example, the lack of a character development system. Leveling up only gives new skins, but no unique abilities or upgrades – and this significantly reduces the motivation to continue playing. Another controversial point is that if the host leaves the match, the game simply ends, which seems outdated in the 2020s. However, if the competitive mode does not live up to expectations, then the co-op “Survival” really saves the situation. You and your friends fight off endless waves of Aliens – a classic Horde-style mode familiar from other games. It is well done and can be a lot of fun. There is just one caveat: Rebellion added only two co-op maps to the standard edition. This clearly limits the possibilities and quickly becomes boring, especially if you like this mode.
Marine Gameplay Review in Aliens vs. Predator
You are a Cadet, a new Marine. After a hard concussed and consciousness slips away. When you come to, there is only darkness and silence of the basement. Almost the entire team is dead. Of the living, only Corporal Tequila. She contacts the surviving soldiers, who took refuge in a local club, and sends you to them. But the rescue turns into a nightmare. Having reached the survivors, you find them barely able to stand on their feet. The second squad is already rushing to help, but hope is destroyed in the blink of an eye – the xenomorphs arrange a brutal ambush, leaving no one alive. You try to retreat, but one of them is faster. Sharp claws squeeze your body, and the world fades again. Waking up in the dark tunnels of the mines, you understand: they will not let you go so easily. Once outside, you make your way into the plant, reset the power grid, and find your way to the controls. Tequila contacts you – she has found Van Zandt, still alive but infected, in the lower levels. You make a tough decision and put the major out of his misery.
On your way is the heart of the hive, the lair of the Alien Queen. In a brutal fight, you burn it, fight your way through the flames and get out. But the danger does not recede. In the jungle, at the Marine base, there are only dead bodies. Tequila gives you one last task: start the transmitter and wait for evacuation. When help is almost here, a sudden blow destroys hope – the Marine ship is shot down. A certain Weyland-Yutani administrator named Katya gets in touch. She offers a deal: you get her the data she needs, and she will help save your comrades. You have no choice. Following her instructions, you make your way into ancient caves, where you find ruins left by Predators. Having reached the crash site, you find the last survivors, but then the path is blocked by the Predator itself. A deadly fight – and you emerge victorious. In the ruins, you find Tequila – but she is already infected with the Facehugger. Together, you reach the Weyland-Yutani laboratory, where you are met by the android Katya. She tries to save Tequila, but to no avail. The only chance is suspended animation.
Now you have a new goal: to go down into the pyramid and find the communicator of Karl Bishop Weyland. This device is the only chance to get off the planet. On the way, you encounter a Praetorian, an elite xenomorph, but you gain the upper hand and move on. A real hell awaits you in front of the pyramid – a horde of Aliens and two Praetorians. Having overcome your fear, you destroy them and get inside. Weyland himself is waiting for you there. He turns out to be not just a man, but an android, and he is trying to kill you. But fate plays against him – the explosion gives you a chance, and you survive. Having thwarted the plans of Weyland-Yutani, you call a rescue cruiser and escape from the collapsing pyramid. Together with Katya and Tequila, you leave the planet. At the last moment, a thermonuclear explosion rises behind you – the Predator’s last game. In the epilogue, you fall asleep in a hibernation capsule, not knowing what lies ahead. And somewhere in the darkness, a new clone of Weyland is already studying the data from the communicator – the coordinates of the xenomorphs’ home world. For this secret, the excavations on BG-386 were arranged. The story is not over yet.
- VP-78 — A reliable starting pistol. This pistol will be your first weapon in combat. Compact, comfortable and effective at close range, it will allow you to quickly respond to threats. The magazine holds 18 rounds, and the ammunition is unlimited, so reloading is the only thing you need to worry about. In the alternate mode, it fires short bursts, increasing damage.
- M41A / 2 — Pulse rifle of marines. A classic, time-tested. This improved version of the pulse rifle is suitable for combat at any distance. 99 rounds in the magazine allow you to fire for a long time, and the built-in underbarrel grenade launcher gives an additional advantage. Unlike regular grenades, the projectiles fly in an arc, which allows you to hit enemies behind cover.
- ZX-76 — Double-barreled destroyer. This shotgun is not just powerful – it is deadly. At close and medium range, it can tear an Alien to shreds with one well-aimed shot. Instead of individual rounds, it is loaded with an 8-round clip. If the situation calls for maximum firepower, the alternate mode allows you to fire two charges at once, turning enemies into a bloody mess.
- M260 – Fire that does not spare. The flamethrower is the best tool for clearing out groups of enemies at short and medium ranges. When caught in a stream of flame, the Xenomorph burns to the ground, but before that it can cause damage, so be careful. Uses fuel cylinders with a capacity of 250 units. The alternate mode sprays flammable liquid, which can be set on fire at the right moment, setting fire traps.
- M42C – An eye that sees in the dark. A sniper rifle created for those who prefer precision and tactics. The magazine holds 6 rounds, but each shot can decide the outcome of the battle. The weapon is equipped with an optical sight, allowing you to track down opponents even in complete darkness or detect camouflaged enemies, including Predators.
- M59/B — Machine gun with intelligence. This machine gun does not just pour lead, but helps to fire more accurately thanks to the homing system. Despite its high efficiency at medium distances, it requires manual aiming for maximum results. It is loaded with a drum magazine for 150 rounds. In the alternative mode, you can turn homing on or off, but there is a nuance: with this weapon in your hands, you will have to forget about running.
Playing as Alien
The player finds himself in the role of a xenomorph named Six, an unusual Alien bred in a laboratory. From the first minutes of life, he stands out among his kind due to his high intelligence and instincts, which attracts the attention of scientists and Weyland himself. However, when the laboratory experiences power supply problems, Six uses the chance to break free. Having freed the Queen and other captive brethren, he begins his bloody journey through human military bases. Ultimately, his path leads to an ancient Predator temple, where he deals with two representatives of this formidable species and infects a face-hugger warrior. After the explosion of the plant, provoked by the Cadet, the Queen dies, and Six is suddenly overcome by unbearable pain. Exhausted, he is caught by people and sent to a spaceship.
But the story does not end with captivity – in the epilogue, we see how the Alien breaks free again, destroying the entire crew of the ship. Gradually, it evolves, first into a Praetorian, then into a Queen, letting out a furious roar, announcing its rebirth. Chronologically, the Alien campaign begins before the Marines’ storyline, and continues until about halfway through it.
Weapons available for Alien
- The claws are the Alien’s main weapon, merciless and swift. They allow you to deal with any enemy in a flash. But if you need special power, you can use an alternative attack mode: both claws fall simultaneously, causing devastating damage.
- The tail is a universal tool for stealth maneuvers. With its help, the Alien can silently turn off light sources, disable generators or suddenly stun enemies at medium range, depriving them of a chance to resist.
- The roar, although not a weapon in the usual sense, plays an important tactical role. This ominous sound can lure the victim to the right place, like a decoy of the Predator, forcing opponents to move where the Alien wants.
Predator gameplay
This time, the player becomes a Predator named Junior. After completing training, he is sent to “BG-386” with an important mission – to destroy the bodies of fallen relatives so that their technology does not fall into the hands of people.
Making his way through the jungle to the Marine base, he not only completes the task, but also finds new equipment, expanding his arsenal. However, the situation soon becomes complicated: he encounters a dangerous creature – the Predalien, a hybrid of an Alien and a Predator. His new order is to track down and destroy this Spawn. Following the target, Junior goes through the plant, eliminating marines and xenomorphs along the way. Soon he discovers the Alien Queen, killed by the Cadet. The path leads him further – into the caves under the ancient ruins, where he finds the legendary mask of the Progenitor – one of the ancient Predator warriors who defeated the Aliens in the past.
Moving forward, he finds himself in the ruins of a pyramid, where he engages in battle with the Praetorian. Victory brings him a new trophy – the Spear of the Progenitor. Then his path lies in the Weyland-Yutani laboratory, where people are trying to catch him. However, it is there that he finds the last artifact – the Progenitor minicomputer. Having reached the top of the pyramid, Junior activates the self-destruct system. Spawn, but he emerges victorious from the battle. The pyramid collapses, and he repeats the ritual of the Progenitor, throwing the enemy’s body down. After this, other Predators take him, and, analyzing the obtained data, he discovers the coordinates of the Aliens’ home planet. The ship rushes off on a new hunt.
The Predator’s Arsenal in Aliens vs. Predator
- Dual Blades – These are twin wrist blades that extend instantly, turning the hands into deadly weapons. Unlike other Predators, Junior has blades on both hands, allowing him to perform lightning-fast combo attacks, spectacular finishers, and even block Alien strikes.
- Plasma Cannon – The classic Predator shoulder weapon, which has received a major update in this game. Now the cannon has auto-aiming even in standard vision, and not just in special modes.
- Mine – An energy mine with an adjustable charge. Mines can be activated upon contact with an enemy, remotely, or simply wait for them to explode automatically after a few seconds.
- Throwing Disc – Unlike previous games, here the disc has lost auto-aiming, but acquired something no less interesting – the ability to ricochet off any surface. Now it doesn’t get stuck in walls and always returns to its owner.
- Spear – The legendary weapon of the Predators, known as the “Combistik”. In this game, it can’t be used in close combat – only thrown. Moreover, the throwing distance is not limited, and after use, the spear automatically appears in the Predator’s hands again. A hit is guaranteed to kill the enemy, turning this weapon into a truly formidable force.
