Ranked seasons, splits and end-of-split rewards

In League of Legends, the annual Ranked Seasons are divided into two splits to make it easier to track your Ranked progress and regularly reward your efforts.

The first split begins at the beginning of the year, usually in January, and the second in the middle. The season ends towards the end of the year, around November. At the start of each new split, your rating will be reset. To return to the leaderboard, you need to play ten qualifying matches.

Seasons

In League of Legends, the Ranked Seasons are split into two splits each year to make it easier to track your Ranked progress and regularly reward your efforts.

The first split begins at the beginning of the year, usually in January, and the second in the middle. The season ends towards the end of the year, around November. At the start of each new split, your rating will be reset. To return to the leaderboard, you need to play ten qualifying matches. After qualifying, your rank will likely be slightly lower than your final rank in the previous split. Your starting rank in the new split is directly dependent on your performance in qualifying matches and your success in the preseason.

Please note that the maximum rank at which you can start a new split is Platinum I. However, if you want to go even higher, everything is in your hands!

A high ranking is a reward in itself, but you will also receive prizes on your way to the top of the rankings, especially at the end of each split!

Regalla

Rank rewards are visual symbols that reflect the rank you’ve achieved throughout a season in League of Legends. These include crests and loading screen borders.

The crest displays your current rank and is visible both on your profile and on the loading screen before the match begins. Additionally, you can choose the frame for the summoner icon that will be displayed in the pre-match lobby.

Loading screen frames display your current rank in the corresponding queue (in regular games, the frame for your highest rank in the Rift of Shadowcalling will be shown). When you click on a player’s card on the loading screen, you can see additional information about their rank status and the skill of the selected champion.

Victorious Images

In Season 2023, you can earn Victory Emblems by playing in Ranked Queues, earning Split Points, and reaching at least Honor Level 2! The number of games and victories required for this depends on your rank.

If you have reached the Iron, Bronze or Silver rank, you will need 1,600 Split Points to receive the Victory Emblem.

If you have reached Gold rank or higher, you will only need 80 split points. (Please note that this only applies to players ranked Gold or higher! If you are demoted before you unlock the emblem, you will have to pay 1,600 split points). If you’re unsure of your rank, hover over the icon at the top of the Ranked Games page to see how close you are to earning a winning emblem for the current split.

Any player can receive the victory emblem! However, remember that Victory Emblem color schemes will be chosen according to your final split rank, so you should try to get it as high as possible!

WHAT IF I UNLOCK AN EMBLEM AT GOLD RANK AND ARE SUBSEQUENTLY DOWNLOADED TO SILVER?

Do not worry! The unlocked emblem will remain with you even after you are downgraded. The main thing is that you have already unlocked it! If you started at Gold but were demoted before reaching 80 Split Points, you will have to pay 1,600 Split Points.

Honor Awards

You will be rewarded if you reach honor level 3 or even higher. However, to obtain the skins from the Champions of Honor collection, you must reach the highest level of honor – 5, and do this before the end of the season. These unique skins will only be available to those players who have demonstrated outstanding skill and earned a high degree of recognition by the end of the season.

Splits

Each game season is divided into two splits, during which you have the opportunity to earn split points in ranked games. If you collect enough points, you can unlock well-deserved rewards, which are presented on the split progress bar at the bottom of the ranked games page. Starting in the 2023 season, your current rank will be reset after each split, giving you two opportunities a year to demonstrate your skills and conquer the top of the ranks.

Split Points

This season we decided to make the process of earning split points easier and more accessible. You’ll still be playing ranked matches, whether it’s solo, doubles, or flex queue, but you’ll now have more generous rewards. For every win you will receive 10 split points, and for every loss you will receive 6 split points. This means you’ll be able to move up the ranks faster and earn well-deserved rewards throughout the season.

Preseason

The period between the end of one season and the beginning of the next is called the pre-season. During this period, you can still play ranked matches, but you will not receive rewards for reaching a new rank. However, your MMR (player rating) will continue to change, so it’s important to put in the effort and play to win to prepare for the future!

During the preseason, we typically make significant gameplay changes, such as complete rune, map, or item updates. These changes are being carefully tweaked during the pre-season before they become part of the next regular season. So don’t miss out on the opportunity to queue up and play while we sort out the changes so you’ll be ready to jump right in at the start of the new season!

Account Transfers and Ranked Qualifications/Rewards

Each server has its own unique rating system. After transferring to a new server, you will have to undergo full qualification. Your new rank will be determined based on the ratio of your current MMR to the rating of all players on the new server. This means that you may end up in a different rank or division than you were in on the previous server.

Additionally, if you do not return to your previous server within two weeks, your rank on it will be reset. If you subsequently decide to return your account back, you will have to go through the qualifying match process again.

For more information about what is saved when you transfer an account between servers, we recommend that you review the account transfer article.
