***A reimagined vision of a Better End***<\/p>\n

## What Is This?<\/p>\n
LighterEnd transforms Minecraft’s least-loved dimension into one full of light, life, wonder and
\nmystery. It adds:<\/p>\n
– **nine** new biomes, each with its own ambient sounds and music
\n– **seven** new mobs (some friendly, some hostile)
\n– **six** new stone building materials
\n– **five** new wood types
\n– **four** new music discs
\n– an **armored elytra**
\n– and much more<\/p>\n
through a balanced gameplay experience that will make you want to explore, base and build in The
\nEnd, and not just go straight home after raiding an End City.<\/p>\n
### A New Future for a Better End<\/p>\n
This mod is based on and inspired by Paulevs’ legendary mod,
\nBetterEnd, development on which ceased in 2024 after
\nover five years. LighterEnd is a ground-up rewrite, built using modern design principles, and has
\nno dependencies outside of the Fabric API. It is my hope, by making this mod easily
\nmaintainable, with the bare minimum of abstractions, that BetterEnd’s _core ethos_ can be carried
\nthrough to new Minecraft versions, as they release, with a minimum of effort.<\/p>\n
### What We Leave Behind<\/p>\n
LighterEnd is **not** and never will be a 1-to-1 recreation of BetterEnd. Explicitly, a lot of
\nBetterEnd’s features were either unbalanced with vanilla Minecraft, were too difficult to maintain
\nor never worked right to begin with. For example:<\/p>\n
– Thallasium and Ender Ore were redundant, and Terminite, Aeternium and Crystalite tool tiers were
\n overpowered. LighterEnd introduces no new ores to the game and only one new armor material,
\n exclusive to the **Silk Elytra,** which had weaker glide than base elytra, a protection level
\n roughly on par with diamond and a durability only slightly better than leather
\n– LighterEnd does not implement its own terrain generation, instead overlaying biomes onto either
\n the Vanilla End or that of a datapack like Nullscape or Stellarity.
\n– Instead of biome-specific end soil, LighterEnd makes do with one **End Moss** which takes on
\n different colors (and bonemeal behaviors) based on the biome it’s in
\n– End Veil is a potion-only effect instead of an enchantment, though intrepid explorers may find
\n other ways of avoiding the ire of Endermen
\n– LighterEnd does not include hammers, forging, infusing or alloying
\n– LighterEnd has no Eternal Portals\u2014the only ways to make it out of The End alive is
\n through the central island.<\/p>\n
Regarding BetterEnd’s **twenty four** biomes, LighterEnd has **nine** (as of v1.0), along with
\nsix wood sets. While none of BetterEnd’s mods are explicitly being excluded, which ones will be
\nported, when and how is dependent on interest (the developers’ and the community’s).<\/p>\n

\nor feature (from BetterEnd or no) you’d like to see prioritized, feel free to open
\nan issue requesting it.<\/p>\n
### New Features<\/p>\n
On the flip side, LighterEnd has features not present in BetterEnd:<\/p>\n
– The option (enabled by default) for gravity in The End to be **1\/3** of normal
\n– **Silk Elytra**\u2014a craftable, trimmable and renewable armored elytra
\n– New survival-challenge-friendly crafting recipes (such as the ability to get paper from the leaves
\n of **End Lilies** and arrows from **Cubozoa** drops)
\n– Sniffers that sploot on **End Moss** will dig up rare End saplings
\n– **Obelisks** that you can teleport to upon almost dying (meaning your stuff is safe even if you
\n fall into The Void)
\n– **Ice Stars** that contain ice enriched with metals (copper, gold, iron)
\n– New mobs such as the **Chorus Crab** and **Glossy Mooshroom**<\/p>\n
### Broad Compatibility<\/p>\n
Lighter End can be installed alongside other End mods, including (but by no means limited to):<\/p>\n
– Nullscape
\n– Moog’s End Structures
\n– Elytra Trims
\n– Better End Sky<\/p>\n
