# Handcrafted Elytra
\nAdds a craftable, balanced, and highly configurable early-game elytra, along with support for colored elytras.<\/p>\n
## Features
\n### Core Gameplay
\n– Adds a **craftable early-game elytra**
\n– **Crafting recipe**:
\n – 1 String
\n – 1 Leather
\n – 2 Sticks
\n – 4 Phantom Membranes
\n– Includes a **new advancement** for crafting a handcrafted elytra
\n– Comes with a **phantom membrane particle trail (Configurable)**
\n– You can use the jump key to **stop flying mid-flight** with either Elytra **(Configurable)**
\n– The Handcrafted Elytra is enchantable in the enchanting table.
\n– Custom textures and elytra dyeing **(1.21.5+)**<\/p>\n
### Durability & Damage (Configurable)
\n– Base durability is **1\/4 of a vanilla elytra**
\n– Using **firework rockets**:
\n – Damages the handcrafted elytra
\n – Causes explosive damage to the player
\n– Flying **too high** damages the handcrafted elytra
\n – There is a sound cue when your elytra is taking more damage.
\n– Flying **too close to the sun** causes fire damage
\n– Flying in the **Nether** causes the player fire damage
\n– Wearing the handcrafted elytra increases **fall damage taken by 50%**
\n– Uses **armor-style breaking** instead of the vanilla elytra broken state<\/p>\n
### Flight Restrictions (Configurable)
\n– Cannot take off from **water**
\n– Cannot fly in **rain**<\/p>\n
## Elytra Dyeing **(1.21.5+)**
\nYou can dye:
\n– The **straps** of a handcrafted elytra
\n– The **wings** of a vanilla elytra<\/p>\n
### Dyeing Methods<\/p>\n
#### Smithing Table (Preset Colors)
\n– Use any of the 16 vanilla dyes to produce one of the beautiful, hand-picked preset colors<\/p>\n
#### Crafting Table (Vanilla Method)
\n– Uses vanilla dyeing mechanics to combine dyes to achieve **any color**
\n– Can be used to reproduce exact hex colors: https:\/\/minecraft.wiki\/w\/Dye#Dyeing_armor<\/p>\n
### Important Dyeing Notes
\n– Only in versions **1.21.5+**
\n– To remove a dye color, use a **water bottle in a smithing table**
\n– If a smithing table is used to dye at any point, the color lore becomes permanent
\n– If you get stuck with a permanent color lore, you can always reset by undyeing the elytra in a smithing table<\/p>\n
## Configuration
\n– All features are **highly customizable!**
\n– Disable features you don\u2019t like or change values to your preference
\n– Open the settings menu with: `\/function handcrafted_elytra:_settings`<\/p>\n
## Known Issues \/ Limitations
\n– **Do not repair either elytras in a crafting table!!!** Use an **anvil** or **grindstone** instead. Crafting repairs are intentionally inefficient to prevent infinite vanilla elytra
\n– Cape compatibility limitations:
\n – To use a **cape texture** on your vanilla elytra:
\n – Dye your elytra white
\n – Enable your cape
\n – To use a **colored vanilla elytra**:
\n – Disable your cape

## Installation
\nThere are multiple versions to support your specific needs:<\/p>\n
### Data Pack and Resource Pack
\n– Download both the data pack and resource pack.
\n– Place the data pack `.zip` file in `world\/datapacks`
\n– Each player must:
\n – Add the resource pack `.zip` file as a resource pack
\n – Enable resource pack in-game<\/p>\n
### Data Resource Pack Combo
\n– Place the same `.zip` file in `world\/datapacks`
\n– Each player must:
\n – Add the same file as a resource pack
\n – Enable resource pack in-game<\/p>\n
### Mod Wrapper
\n– Place the `.jar` file in the mods folder on **both the client and the server**<\/p>\n
### Server-Side Only
\n– Datapack: place `.zip` in `world\/datapacks`
\n– Mod wrapper: place the `.jar` file in the server `mods` folder<\/p>\n
## Uninstall
\nTo uninstall, use: `\/function handcrafted_elytra:uninstall` or the `Uninstall` button in the settings menu.
