ESL One Birmingham Online: China had its first lower bracket elimination series come to an end earlier today as CDEC Gaming and Invictus Gaming fought for a spot against Royal Never Give Up tomorrow.

After an unbeaten group stage run, dropping only a single game through the early parts of the event, even securing an easy 2-0 victory over Invictus Gaming, CDEC were dropped into the lower bracket by a strong RNG squad. However, now iG would have a shot at revenge as both teams were playing for a spot in the lower bracket finals and a chance at reaching the grand finals if they could survive elimination.

iG went into the first game of the series looking like the better team, although on paper it was CDEC who technically should have been coming out on top. When iG begun to pull ahead near the 20-minute mark, CDEC pounced to secure a RAMPAGE for Guo ‘Xm’ Hongcheng’s Templar Assassin.

Unfortunately, this was the only real high point in the game, as constant pickoffs by iG after this moment ensured that they would claim the first game of the series and leave CDEC with everything to play for. With their advantage, iG made sure that they would not get caught out like they had in the previous game, controlling the entire map and forcing massive mistakes from CDEC – which all culminated with Zhou ‘James’ Yifu throwing Xm’s Troll Warlord into the waiting arms of his opponents.

With that, iG secured revenge for their group stage defeat with a 2-0 victory, pushing them into the lower bracket finals where they will meet RNG tomorrow. For CDEC, their ESL One Birmingham Online event ends in fourth place as they will look to do better in future events. Tomorrow’s lower bracket final victor will get to face PSG.LGD who are already awaiting in the grand final.
