The picture looks lively and rich, the engine is cranked up to the max to produce modern visuals. Yes, against the background of recent releases, it is clear that the technology is not in its first youth, and console limitations are noticeable. But, nevertheless, the game still looks stylish and impressive.

However, let’s forget about beautiful videos, plot intrigues and direction for a minute. What will remain? Gameplay, which comes down to shooting enemies whose intelligence has not evolved since the previous parts. Even at a high level of difficulty, it is enough to play carefully: sit behind cover, do not stick your head out once again — and everything will go smoothly. The variety of locations adds dynamics to the game, but in fact the mechanics remain unchanged: running between cover, shooting from around the corner, and so on in a circle.

As for weapons, there are plenty of them in the game. Futuristic guns, arrows with explosive effects, grenades that paralyze enemies, rifles that pierce walls – all this sounds cool. But in practice, these “toys” are more for the collection than for a real advantage. It is easier and faster to complete levels with a regular rifle or shotgun, without bothering with exotic ones. I remember a funny moment in one of the first missions: the main character and his partner are retreating under the onslaught of enemies, bullets are whistling over their heads, the situation is critical … And suddenly the partner with the most serious face says: “Alex, set the traps.” Well, maybe it is worth declaring a five-minute break while we set the traps?

Things are more interesting with enemies. Although their intelligence does not shine, technical progress has not passed them by. In 2025, they have at their disposal:

• Invisibility suits – enemies literally dissolve into thin air, making aiming difficult.
• Combat drones – hovering turrets that prevent you from moving freely around the map.
• Combat robots – damage-resistant machines that can become allies if reprogrammed.
• Advanced weapons – some enemies have received powerful weapons that can shoot through cover.

Because of this, you have to be more attentive: enemies can disappear before your eyes, and metal “dogs” and hovering turrets force you to spend more ammo. In some missions, you can even take control of robots and use them against enemies – this is at least some fresh mechanics. Treyarch is clearly trying to add something new, but most of the changes are more cosmetic in nature and do not affect the depth of the gameplay. However, despite this, the new Call of Duty still feels lively and exciting. And this is not only due to Hollywood productions, but also to the variety of missions and their style: sometimes we ride a horse through the Afghan deserts, shooting at tanks, then we walk along the futuristic streets of a city of the future. It seems familiar, but the drive has not gone anywhere.

Black Ops 2: When Action Turns into an Attraction

The series gained popularity largely due to the fact that it skillfully diluted monotonous shootouts with dynamic arcade missions. Black Ops 2 offers not just running along corridors, but spectacular episodes: you can furrow the sky in a fighter jet, or you can climb steep cliffs using gloves with a sticky coating. The problem is that this bright action hides absolute arcade. These missions are not just far from hardcore – they do not even contain a hint of realism. When Mason, like an 80s action hero, riding a dashing horse with a grenade launcher in his hands, takes out a tank column, you involuntarily ask yourself: why in the next part he will not be able, say, to sink an enemy nuclear submarine on a dolphin?

There were also stealth missions. According to the classic genre, the player and his partner have to sneak past enemy patrols and guard drones. But to feel like a real scout, it is enough to just stick your nose into the back of your ally and follow him like an obedient puppy. There is no room for improvisation here, which was provided by classic stealth games like Thief. The so-called “special operations of the strike force” deserve special attention – side missions that open up as you progress through the campaign. They offer elements of strategy: the player gets the opportunity to control the squad in the “top view” mode, place soldiers and equipment, and lay out routes. It sounds interesting on paper, but in reality, this is what happens:

• Tactical mechanics look alien against the background of the usual hurricane action.
• Control of fighters feels rough and not flexible enough.
• Enemies behave like dummies at a training ground, turning the process into a routine.
• All this resembles a boring fight with bots, while in online battles the action is much more lively.

This begs the question: why waste time on this when Treyarch has much more exciting multiplayer modes in store for us?

Call of Duty Multiplayer Breakdown: Modernization or Step Back?

Multiplayer mode has always been one of the main features of Call of Duty, but Modern Warfare 3, alas, could not withstand competition with either the well-thought-out Battlefield 3 or even its own predecessors. Realizing their mistakes, the developers decided to seriously take on updating online battles.

The new multiplayer takes place in 2025, which means that players have access to an impressive arsenal of futuristic weapons, various perks, grenades and, of course, combat drones. There are also plenty of modes: classic Deathmatch, various variations of team battles and even non-standard entertainment like “clubs and stones”. However, there are no fundamentally new mechanics – for example, Hardpoint offers the same capture of points that appear in random places on the map. But if there are no gameplay revolutions, then the maps are really successful this time. The developers have moved away from the dull gray-brown palette of Modern Warfare 3, filling the levels with bright colors and a variety of surroundings.

As you play, you will earn tokens that can be spent on new weapons, upgrades, and customization. An important feature is the character creation system. You can immediately choose one of the ready-made classes or assemble a fighter to suit your play style. Equipment is divided into slots: two for weapons, several for modules, perks, and grenades. But you won’t be able to create a “universal soldier” – only 10 active slots are given for everything, which forces you to specialize.
