Two teams from WePlay! Pushka League Division 2 have secured a spot in the next season’s main division. Vikin.gg are the champions of the current season, while Team Unique, although stomped in the grand finals by the Europeans, will join them in Division 1.

Unfortunately, the secondary division of the current season was plagued by controversies. After Cyber TRAKTOR got disqualified and one of their players received a one year ban from any WePlay! tournaments, as he was caught doing illegal betting on his own team matches, this week another issue was brought to light on social media by  Ben “Noxville” Steenhuisen.

Over the course of group stage matches and first rounds in the playoffs, Yolo Knight used a total of 10 substitute players. Their roster problem was overlooked by the organizers and so they made their way up to the semifinals where they could have potentially secured a spot in the next season Division 1. The issues became bigger when the team started to bring renowned tier one players in what looked like a maneuver to help them reach the top two places in the current season. Yolo Knight were planning to bring Franck “Cr1t-” Nielsen as their 11th stand-in player for the semifinals against Vikin.gg last night.  In the end, without further explanation from WePlay! Esports, Yolo Knight announced that they decided to forfeit the series “due to WePlay! changing their rules day to day,” and not allowing them to play with yet another stand-in player.

The default win from last night, when Vikin.gg got basically promoted to Division 1,  can’t take away anything from their incredible run. They finished the group stage undefeated and continued to crush the competition with a quick 2-0 series in the playoffs.

For many, their result is a testimony for what can be regarded as an injustice that was made to them even before the tournament began.

In the regional qualifiers for the event, Chicken Fighters were eliminated by OG.Seed, while Vikin.gg made it to the grand finals. They lost to OG.Seed and therefore they were placed in Division 2. However, a few days before the tournament was set to begin, Ninjas in Pyjamas, who were one of the teams directly invited, but with the PPD roster, announced the signing of Chicken Fighters, who basically received a free ticket to the tournament for which they basically lost the qualifiers.

WePlay! Esports released a statement regarding the situation back then and explained: “in the spirit of working with organizations, we accepted the former Chicken Fighters squad as the new NiP roster in WePlay! Pushka League Division 1.”

Regardless of all that happened, Vikin.gg have now secured an invite to next season Division 1, and tomorrow, May 13, they are also set to start their journey in the EU and CIS online event of OGA Dota PIT Online.
