Their run through The International 2018 was second-to-none and as they raised the Aegis of Champions high, it was clear that OG were the undeniable best Dota 2 team in the world at that moment in time. A small, but well-deserved break awaited the team following their magnificent victory and when they came back, they instantly qualified for the Dota 2 Pro Circuit 2018/19 season’s second Minor, The Bucharest Minor. However, with under a week to go until the Minor, OG have found themselves suffering from what could be the return of the “TI-Curse”.

The “TI-Curse” is fairly obvious and well-known to anyone who has followed Dota 2 since it begun – basically it is the way in which every single winner of TI has struggled to find solid form following their victory. So, is this something that has befell the mighty OG? I think not.

The team has recently lost not one but two players – firstly it was Anathan ‘ana’ Pham who was replaced by Per Anders Olson ‘Pajkatt’ Lille for a short time. Just a few days ago it was announced that OG would be replacing him, this time with a returning standin, Igor ‘iLTW’ Filatov. Team changes are always a tough thing for any team to deal with, no less for a TI-winning squad with a lot of pressure on them to instantly show the prowess of their victories. OG’s 0-3 loss to Gambit Esports just a few moments ago, in my opinion, is not a clear sign of the team’s demise.

That said, we should be taking nothing away from the amazing display from Gambit as they marched over Forward Gaming, Ninjas in Pyjamas and OG and took the spoils at the WePlay! Winter Madness tournament. Gambit’s extremely fast play-style is a breath of fresh air from a CIS squad that have shown some absolute class lately. The team deserve every bit of praise possible for weathering the toughest teams and claiming the spoils at this tournament.

The upcoming Bucharest Minor is definitely going to be where we can see if OG have been struck by “The Curse” or if we see the team show their amazing skills again. We also await to see if the team replace iLTW and announce a new player of if they will take this team into the Minor. Gambit are also going to be present at the Minor and it is going to be extremely interesting to watch this CIS squad grow and I am sure they will be very exciting to watch. We’ll be sure to bring you any and all news coming out the Minor and all the team’s camps prior to and during the first DPC event of 2019.
