ESL One Birmingham Online: Southeast Asia had its round-robin group stage come to an end today as all six teams played their final series before the event.
After five days of ESL One Birmingham Online: SEA Dota 2 action, the group stage round-robin play has come to an end and we will see two teams eliminated from the event. Following their terrible run in the opening four days, suffering four consecutive 2-0 losses, TNC Predator were technically already eliminated yesterday – but they had one series left to avoid being embarrassed in a complete shutout. Luckily for the MDL Chengdu Major winning squad, their final series was against Reality Rift, who were also assured elimination after the final day ended.
Surprisingly, considering their recent form, TNC were able to finally claim their first game victory at the event, when they opened with a win against RR – however, they would still need a second to claim the series. RR were not about to make it easy either as they managed to tie up the series and lead us into a third and decisive game. But TNC, who had constantly lost series with the Enigma pick would finally come through with a win to take a 2-1 victory.
Fnatic had a very up-and-down group stage at the event, losing and wining alternate games – and they broke that pattern today with a big win over Geek Fam. The win was vital to FNC as it pushed them up into the upper bracket of playoffs while sending GF down to the lower bracket of the playoff stage – where elimination would be just a single loss away.
Awaiting them in the lower bracket was another surprise in Team Adroit, who had begun the ESL One Birmingham Online event dominating all in their path. But after a loss to GF yesterday, the squad seemed unable to find their footing again, resulting in the mighty BOOM Esports taking them down. The win meant that BOOM would secure an upper bracket showing against Fnatic, while GF would need to avoid elimination against Geek Fam.
The playoff games are as follows:
- BOOM Esports versus Fnatic
- Geek Fam versus Team Adroit
The playoffs of ESL One Birmingham Online: SEA begin a little under four days’ time on May 29th, 2020, so there is still some time before that arrives. Unfortunately for TNC Predator and Reality Rift, their tournament ends here as they were unable to make it through the group stages.
