While we’re deep in the post TI9 roster shuffle, we’re seeing many players and rosters undergoing huge changes but over in the Chinese Dota 2 scene, some of the well-known players of Old Boys have announced their intention to coach a youth team.
Old Boys is a Chinese Dota 2 roster which features some of the biggest and most well-known players of the region – many who have either won The International or come extremely close in the early years of the event. The team do not really compete in events or qualifiers but have been known to expand as almost a home for the retired legends of Chinese Dota, but now they’re changing into something completely new. Announced via Weibo, it would seem that Old Boys is now going to become almost an academy where they coach new and young talent, leading them forward in Dota 2.
Players such as Jiang ‘YYF’ Cen, Chen ‘Zhou’ Yao, Gong ‘ZSMJ’ Jian and Zhang ‘Mu’ Pan, to name just a few, have decided that they will be building 1-2 youth teams. Their aim is to provide a platform for skilled players who want to try to play competitively and also nourish fresh blood for the Chinese Dota scene. The post states that they will be looking for players of 7500 MMR+ for positions 1 through 3 and 7200 MMR+ for positions 4 and 5. While no players have been announced for the team just yet, the Weibo post explains that they will be searching for new talent in a host of selection matches – which will also be cast and streamed with more detailed information to come.
While no dates or other details have been given as yet, it will be great to see new and rising talent on display and hopefully this will encourage more regions and players to build on their young talent in Dota 2.
