Blizzard are gearing up to what fans hope to be a great Blizzcon weekend and the first announcement from them is coming a week early. The multiplayer beta for Warcraft III: Reforged will launch this week, Blizzard confirmed Tuesday, giving the community a first glimpse into how the remastered version of the classic RTS will look like.
That said, the multiplayer beta will launch with some limitations. Only 1v1 and 2v2 matchmaking will be enabled (so no, no 8-man free for all), and only the Orc and Human races will be playable. In the coming weeks, Blizzard look to add Night Elf and Undead, as well as the other game modes.
The beta will not be open. Invites will come in waves, prioritizing first those who’ve purchased the Spoils of War edition of the game, and later those who’ve pre-purchased standard editions of the game, as well as non-buyers.
Warcraft III stands out as one of the most iconic products of Blizzard, paving the way for World of Warcraft’s popularity. Having had a vibrant esports in the past, and the original still popular in countries like China and Korea, there are a lot of fans who await Reforged and the potential revival of Warcraft III esports scene.
