Former Dead or Alive player Tomoyuki “Katsuninken” Inui was apprehended by Tokyo Metropolitan Police, Tokyo Daily News and TBS News reported Monday. Inui was caught by the police in February, breaking into the home of a 84-year-old woman through the window and allegedly stealing 2.6M JPY (approx. $23,400).
Inui competed in the Dead or Alive franchise and won $15,000 as he took first place in World Cyber Games 2005 in Singapore, winning the DOA: Ultimate tournament over local player Wilson “Tetra” Chia. Since then, however, Inui found it difficult to earn money playing video games, as he told the police.
“With my video game activities winding down, I turned to [burglaries] to cover living costs,” Inui said.
During questioning, Inui also admitted to have committed around 100 break-ins over the past three years alone
As franchise, Dead or Alive returned to WCG for two more years only, in 2006 and 2007. DOA wasn’t a popular franchise in the FGC community either, and only had one EVO appearance: in 2006 with Dead or Alive 4.
