TSM AD Carry Kasper “Kobbe” Kobberup has left the North American organization to return to the LEC and join Misfits Gaming, the two orgs confirmed Monday.
The future of Kobbe’s career became uncertain once TSM acquired star bot laner Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng, raising a lot of conflict of interest questions along the way. Doublelift cam to TSM as the clear favorite for the starting position, meaning Kobbe would likely leave the organization.
While ordinarily such roster change would not be that big of a deal, the global COVID-19 pandemic made Kobbe’s prospects uncertain. As Kobbe is still an import, having played just one split in the LCS, joining another North American team would be almost impossible, given a team can only have two imports at the same time. Returning to Europe, on the other hand, could also prove difficult, with travel bans rooting many esports players in a place where there are no career prospects for them.
It seems, however, that Kobbe will be able to return to Europe after all and join an LEC roster. The Dane will replace Korea bot laner Ju “Bvoy” Yeong-joon on Misfits ahead of the 2020 Summer Split.
Many will see the transfer as an upgrade for Misfits. In the 2020 Spring Split, Kobbe ranked third highest among bot laners in terms of KDA and second highest in terms of CSPM, while helping TSM place 4th in the Spring Playoffs. Kobbe is also a Worlds quarterfinalist and Rift Rivals champion with Splyce and made the LEC playoffs on only his second split in the league.
