A little over an hour ago it was announced via Business Wire that Blizzard Entertainment have a new president. World of Warcraft fans and players will know him as the long-standing Executive Producer of the game, J. Allen Brack. Brack was previously the 2nd in command to the now ex-president and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, Mike Morhaime and while Morhaime will be staying on as a “strategic advisor” to the company, Brack will now head the massive organization. Alongside the appointment of Brack, Ray Gresko, the Chief Executive Developer, and Allen Adham, another of the co-founders of Blizzard, will also be moving into the executive leadership team.

Activision Blizzard’s CEO, Bobby Kotick, had a few words to say about each of the new positions and the figures filling them,

J. has been with Blizzard for over 12 years leading the World of Warcraft team, and it takes vision, creativity and unwavering commitment to excellence to sustain a community of players the way J. has for over a decade. He has shown unwavering commitment to our community, to innovation and creative excellence and he cares deeply about ensuring the very best of Blizzard culture will be protected.”

I am also excited to have Allen Adham, Blizzard’s founder, who rejoined the company two years ago and Ray Gresko, Blizzard’s Chief Development Officer, join Blizzard’s executive leadership team. I have known both Allen and Ray for more than 25 years and they are two of the most capable entrepreneurs in the game industry. They will help make certain that inspiration and creativity remains the focus of Blizzard.”

Kotick goes on to thank Mike Morhaime for his leadership and the work he has done with the team and within Blizzard itself – and Morhaime had the following to say in a statement released via Blizzard’s website a little while after,

I am grateful to all of the hardworking and talented people at Blizzard for their dedication and creativity. Their belief in our mission and care for our players has helped Blizzard reach greater heights than I ever could have imagined.”

With Blizzcon just under one month away, this is a huge announcement and it will probably mean that we see J. Allen Brack take to the front-and-center stage in a few weeks as the doors to Blizzcon open. Being a massive fan of Blizzard as an organization and a developer myself, this is a very big step for Blizzard and we wish Brack the best of luck heading the organization in the future. We look forward to seeing what Blizzcon and Blizzard Entertainment have in store.
