Mid laner Son “Ucal” Woo-hyeon will return to KT Rolster for the 2020 Summer Split, the organization confirmed Wednesday. Ucal will be reunited with his former home after he left Griffin, following the org’s relegation out of the LCK and termination of most player contracts.

Ucal originally joined KT Rolster in 2017, becoming the second mid laner in what was dubbed the LCK dream team, featuring the likes of Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu, Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong, and Heo “PawN” Won-seok, among others. Unfortunately for the fans, that line-up brought home far fewer titles than expected, winning only the 2018 Summer Playoffs, failing to qualify for Worlds 2017, and finishing top 8 at Worlds 2018, despite being considered one of the heavy favorites for the Summoner’s Cup in the latter year.

Despite that, this period was the best Ucal has looked in his relatively short career, as he couldn’t replicate those successes with his next two orgs: Afreeca Freecs and Griffin. As part of AFS, Ucal peaked at 5th place in the 2019 Summer Playoffs, and his stint with Griffin saw him relegated out of the LCK after finishing dead last in the 2020 Spring Split.

As Ucal returns to KT, he won’t play with any of these “dream team” teammates, but will reunite with bot lane carry Kim “Aiming” Ha-ram, with whom he played at Afreeca Freecs. KT as an org also seems to be past its 2019 struggles and even though it still doesn’t look like a Worlds contender, it’s performing far better than the team who feared relegation every day of the past year.
