DAMWON Gaming could not continue their run through the LCK playoffs. After beating SANDBOX 2-1 on Wednesday, DWG fell easy prey to Kingzone DragonX, who swept the series.
The series saw a flawless, kills-rich performance by KZ, who established their dominance over the rookie org. A much-improved Kim “Rascal” Kwang-hee had a fantastic day, carrying on Akali and Kennen alongside equally impressive Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu. Game 2 even had Park “TusiN” Jong-ik bring out Pyke — a champion that hasn’t been played in the LCK all season — in tandem with Deft’s Morgana to make for one of the most impressive showings of the series.
KZ now go against SK Telecom T1 in a highly anticipated match-up. KZ lost both best-of-3 series to SKT in the regular season, winning only a single map. The match-up sets up a high-octane bot lane skirmish between Deft and Park “Teddy” Jin-seong, the latter considered the only real rival to Griffin’s Park “Viper” Do-hyeon in the current season. In the mid lane, Heo “PawN” Won-seok goes against Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok — a throwback to the good old telecom wars days.
Despite the loss, DAMWONG are guaranteed an appearance at Rift Rivals 2019, where they’ll represent Korea against LPL and LMS alongside SKT, KZ and Griffin.
