Former Griffin bot laner Park “Viper” Do-hyeon will play for Hanwha Life in the 2020 LCK Summer Season, the org confirmed Monday. The transfer reunites Viper with his former bot lane partner Son “Lehends” Si-woo, who joined HLE ahead of the Spring Split.
Viper’s transfer to HLE comes in the wake of Griffin’s decision to terminate the contract with its players, following their relegation out of the LCK. After a series of scandals, which included the departure of key figures within the team and the suspension of their CEO for mismanagement, Griffin had their worst season in their short League of Legends history, finishing last in the 2020 Spring Split and ultimately losing in relegation.
Getting Viper is an upgrade to HLE’s bot lane in every way. The team played the Spring Split with rookie Oh “Vsta” Hyo-seong, who placed second worst among bot laners in terms of KDA and last place in terms of CSMP and GPM. On the other hand, despite playing for the worst team in the league, Viper held a decent position among other players in his position and was one of the key players on Griffin during the split. Reuniting with Lehends should mean a surge of power for HLE, who finished Spring in only 8th place.
As for Griffin, the team also terminated the contracts of top laner Park “Untara” Ui-jiuin and mid laner Son “Ucal” Woo-hyeon. There are still a few prominent players on Griffin’s active roster, including jungler Lee “Tarzan” Seung-yong and mid Yoo “Naehyun” Nae-hyun, but with the team relegated out of the LCK and in need of restructuring, it’s likely that these players too depart in search for a way back into the main league.
